Mrs. Robert P. Kidder, program chairman, talked on the topic, "The Beautiful," and presented Miss Helen Casey, who gave a charming travelogue on her re cent two months' trip to South America. Members enjoyed see ing the many articles brought back by Miss Casey from her trip. Mrs. Radigan reported on the float for the rodeo and the group held a special meeting at the Ber nard Saar home Tuesday night and worked on roses for the float. Mrs. Verdun Boucock present ed a report on the City Coifncll meeting and committees for the year were appointed by the presi dent Including: program, Mrs. Robert B. Rhodes; ways and means, Mrs. Ernest Baker; social, Mrs. Verdun Boucock; projects, Mrs. Sidney Domenico; contact, Mrs. Robert P. Kidder; member ship, Mrs. May Mathews; his torian, Mrs. Earl Garrison; par liamentarian, Mrs. Frank Wick ham, and publicity, Mrs. Sidney Domenico. Mrs. L. L. Wlmherly presented the gavel guard to the retiring president, Ethel Van Voorst, who In turn presented the ritual of Jewels to Miss Helen Casey. The chapter voted to sell Beta Sigma Phi greeting cards. New pledges chose their big sisters. Mrs. Sidney Domenico an nounced the chapter will con tinue the project of sending cookies and magazines to the county home every two weeks. Mrs. Robert P. Kidder and Mrs. Robert Sabln will serve the first two weeks of May and Mrs. Rob ert Bellows and Mrs. Frank Wlckham will be hostesses for the last of May. Plans were made for a seven thirtv o'clock kid party and sup. Ker ior May 19 to be held at the ome of Mrs. Wlmherly with Mrs. Verdun Boucock. No. 41, met Tuesday night at the I. O. O. F. hall with Nora Frauen diener presiding. All hut one of- licer were present, mere Wtve 47 members in attendance Includ ing 24 Noble Grands. Second nomination of officers resulted as follows: Noble Grand, Mary Alice Morlensen; vise-grand, Golda N 1 c k e 1 1 ; recording secretary, Blanche Marr, and treasurer, 01 lie Kreuger. One application for membership by transfer was balloted upon and accepted. One member of the lodge was granted a transfer card to the lodge at Port Angeles, Wash. Delegates who will attend the assembly at North Bend May 17- ib-ih received Instructions on vot ing from the lodge. The degree staff captain, Evelyn Fredrickson, called a final practice for Sunday, May lo, at two o clock. The Three Links Club reported having $130 to nelp netray expenses of the de gree staff to the assembly. Under good of the order, Ger trude Hatfield presented a most Interesting paper on "The Legend of the Dogwood Tree." Chairman Velma Herman announced a spe clal entertainment will be pre sented at the next meeting and urged all Rebekahs to attend. Helena Hays was appointed chair man of refreshments for the next meeting. WOMEN'S GUILD Of FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH HOLDS QUARTERLY MEETING The first quarterly meeting of the three circles of the Women's Guild of Faith Lutheran Church was held Tuesday night at the armory. The meeting opened by groun singing of a hymn, fol lowed by the devotions in charge of Rev. Willis Erickson. The program on "Missionary Woik of the Church," was verv Interestingly presented by Mrs. E. J. Paulson, Mrs. Harry Hel berg, and Mrs. Robert Keiit. The business meeting was con ducted by Mrs. Walter Samuel son, president. The group adopted the constitution. A gift was pre sented to Mrs, Jim Nielsen for her help with the Circle and In the Church Sunday school. Mrs. Nielsen and her family will leave after school Is out for their home In Omaha, Nehr. Picture by Fred- WOMAN'S SOCIETY HAS DESSERT-LUNCH EON THURSDAY AFTERNOON The Woman's Society of the First Presbyterian Church had Its retreat in the church parlors for the regular Mav meeting, where it found welcome relief from the heat of the day In an atmosphere of the fresh cool breath of spring lent by beau tiful arrangements of roses and columbine. A delicious one-thirty o'clock dessert-luncheon was served by the hostess committee with Mrs. J. C'.illis Carlson, chairman, assist ed by Mrs. Leon Wescman, Mrs. Eugene Springer. Mrs. W. H. Fer ris, Mrs. Mabel Wilson and Miss Margaret Clapp. Mrs. N. D. Johnson presided at the business meeting, at which time a new president, Mrs. John Plnkerton, was elected. Mrs. Harold Bellows, program chairman, presented the Camp Fire group sponsored by the soci ety under the guardianship of Mrs. Louis Neureiter, In a very enjoyable demonstration program of Camp Fire work. The year book of. praver was presented by Mrs. Earl Plum iner. The afternoon closed with i beautiful memorial service honor ing Mrs. T. B. Garrison, who was president of the society at the time of her death. The cere mony was presented In a setting of candlelight playing about Cal la lilies, arranged by Mrs. Voile Broadway, before a myitlewood cross. Mrs. W. M. Campbell paid tribute to Mrs. Garrison and clos ed by reading Tennyson's "Cross ing of the Bar," to the strains of violin music played by Mrs. M. H. Roach. MURDOCK Miss Norma Dell Lockwood be came the bride of Vernon Mans field Murdock II Saturday eve ning at seven-thirty o'clock in a lovely candlelight ceremony in the old and historic Methodist Church at Tenmile. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Lockwood, was given In marriage by her falher and was beautiful in a light pink suit with navy blue sweetheart hat, while veil and white acces sories. She carried a white Bible topped with a spray of gardenias tied with white satin ribbons. Doris Raines' wa3 the bride's attendant and Eddie Dwight was best man. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Mur dock I of Van Nuys, Calif. His parents were unable to be present for the wedding. Leading the procession were the candlelighters, Miss Phvllis Croy and Miss DeElva Rae Ward, cousins of the bride. Rev. W. W. Appleyard read the ceremony. The wedding marches and other music were furnished by Mrs. Elmer Boyer. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Vance served as ushers. The church was beautifully decorated by Mrs. Elmer Boyer with flowers furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Godfrey. Relatives and friends from Sweet Home, Coquille, Happy Valley, Dlllard and Tenmile fill ed the little church to witness the first wedding to be held there. A reception was held later at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Lockwood. grandparents of the bride. The couple will make their home in Tenmile. ORDER OF AMARANTH COURT TO BE INSTITUTED IN ROSEBURG Plans were completed at a meeting Friday night at the home of Mrs. L. G. Twohy on South Stephens street for Instituting a Court. Order of Amaranth. In Roseburg the evening of June 18 at the Masonic temple at 8 o'clock. Mrs. Edna Manning, Portland, Grand Royal Matron, and Mrs. Frances E. Hurlburt. Mrs. C. G. Stanton was general chairman with Mrs. Mable P. Tay lor, program chairman. Decora tions were arranged hy Mrs. B. F. Chilson, Mrs. Ada Davis and Mrs. J. M. Miller and refresh ments were in charge of Mrs. Earl Rhoads, Mrs. A. M. Neal, Mrs. J. R. Wilson, Mrs. H. F. Snyder and Mrs. R. B. Marshall. Mrs. Lena Poole sang, "Little Old Lady," which was dramatized In costume by Mrs. Anna Carson. An original tribute to Mother, written by Mrs. Marvey Wells, was read by Mrs. Mable P. Tay lor and Mrs. Willmetta Squire, sang. "That Wonderful Mother of Mine." Mrs. Anna Carson read, in costume, "I Ain't Dead Yet." Nine amusing clippings, which had been previously distributed by the program chairman, were read by class members. Mrs. Harold Boucock graciously pre sided at the piano. Rand's 8th grade girls class of the Methodist Sun day School entertained their mothers at a delightful program and tea Saturday afternoon from two to four o'clock at the Harl Kelley home. Each girl presented a beautiful corsage to her mother as she in troduced her to the group. Carol Neureiter read a story; Carolyn Burr pisented two piano solos and Donna Adair read a poem. At the tea hour, lovely refresh ments were served from a lace covered table centered with a large peony. Bouquets of red and white carnations and mixed spring flowers were used about the moms.
