Four New Earthquakes
Are Reported in Nevada
RENO, Nev., Jan. 8 JPX Four
new earthquakes, two ot them
with a noise "like a rumbllns
explosion" were reported in Ver-
ui, nine miles west of Reno last
night. At least one was felt
sharply in Reno, but there were
no reports of damage In either
city.
The Reno vicinity was shaken
by a long series of earth shocks
beginning Dec. 27 and continu
ing more than a week. The most
severe, Dec. 29, did widespread
minor property damage. Seismo
graphs recorded from 80 to 30
tremors In all, tapering off to a
final, very faint shock early yes-
teraay morning.
Then, at 7:41 p. m., Verdi resi
dents felt the first of four "severe
quakes." Mrs. Sophus Mortenson,
lmerviewea oy telephone said
there had been three uo to 7:55
p. m.A PST; then she" gave a
little scream and said "we're
having another one!"

Stapleford, former Roseburg High
student, who entered the Naval
service Sept. 10, 1947, received
his recruit training at the Naval
Training Center, San Diego, Cal
ifornia. The estimated annual economic
loss, resulting from arthritic
diseases in the U. S., Is almost
twice as great as the total 1947
budget for New York State.
