trasted life In parts of Northern Mexijo, which he visited recently,
with life in the United States, in a brief talk as an impromptu pro
gram feature of Tuesday's weekly Kiwanis Club meeting.

Barren Area Repels
A general view of the barren
country from the air soon con
vinced the fliers that they had no
interest in this locality, especially
considering that $1000 would be
required for a membership. They
were shown -evidence of the ex
cellent fishing from this point,
and were informed that game of
every description abounded in
great quantities.
But they had seen enough, Ko
foed related. They weren't con
cerned with the hunting and fish
ing side of the picture, if thev
had to put up with other condi
tions of this barren area.
Thev cut short their stay and
headed back toward the United
States. After paying out one peso
after another to the Mexicans for
flving privileges, they were greet
ed back In the United States with
the information that there was
no charge for clearing them
through the port of inspection,
that the eharge was taken care
, of through taxes.
I This, he related, was the best
Information they obtained on their
trip.
An Impromptu musical program
was staged. with Paul Geddes serv
ing as leader. Waller Fisher, (led
des. Ralph Tozier and Harold
Hickerson formed a quartet and
sang a couple of numbers, and the
members then Joined in.

'Stop the Music'
Program Facing
Federal Inquiry
WASHINGTON. Oct. 20.-W
Wayne Coy., chairman of the
Federal Communications Commis
sion, said vesterday the only
"skill required of listeners to
the "Stop the Music" radio pro
gram Is the "ability to read" the
answers published by some news
paper columnist.
"You don't even have to be able
to write." Coy commented, not
ing that the answers are given
over the telephone.
Coy voiced his opinions dunne
a hearing called by FCC to take
testimony on proposed rules to
bar from the air certain give
away programs which the Com
mission regards as lotteries.
Bruce Bromley, attorney for
the American Broadcasting Com
pany, said the Sunday night "Stop
the 'Music" program. "Is not de
signed lo be a fake by publishing
the answers In advance."

casters, said that the Commission
doesn't have the authority to im
pose the broad general rules It
proposes: that the programs
which would be banned would not
in fact be illegal, and that such
Commission action would inter
fere with free speech.
He contended the FCC should

and the courts the determination
whether a program Is a lottery.

Higher Wage For
Lawmakers Issue
In Six States
WASHINGTON. Oct. 20.-iF
Six states are putijng the Issue
of higher pay for their lawmak
ers before the voters next month.
A seventh. Washington, is vot-
ing on a constitutional amena
ment to permit the iegislati're lo
fixe salaries for elective officers.
Their salaries now are at the level
set by the state constitution in
Four states have old age pen
sion measures on their ballats.
Oregon has an initiative to es
tablish $50 a month old age pen
sions. Washington has one pro
posing a $60 floor on pensions,
freer medical aid provisions and
elimination of the perestn "lien
clause."
A constitutional amendment on
the North Carolina ballot seelV
to increase the pav of legislators
from the present $1500 to $1 200 a
session r.nd of presiding officers
from $700 to $1,500 a session.
Michigan voters will pass on a
propose amendment to remove
the constitutional $3 a day limit
on legislators' salaries and let
the legislature fix the pay of its
members and provide for expense
accounts. Another amendment
would let the lawmakers set the
