Average Incomes in U. S.
Double That of 'Boom' Era
WASHINGTON. Sept. 20 UP
The average Income of Amer
icans is about double what it
was In 1929, a "boom" year in
its day.
A Commerce Department re-
Dort showed today that the aver
age income of individuals (as
distinct from corporations) in
creased from $680 in 1929 to
$1,323 last year, a rise of 95
per cent.
But it noted that "from 1929
to 1947 there was a pronounced
relative shift of income from the
New En eland and Middle East
ern regions to the West and j
soutn.
This was attributed mostly to i
industrial development in the :
two regions. i
A table showing average in- j
comes for individuals in 1929 1
and 1947, and the percentage of
increase includes:
Far West (California, Nevada,
Oregon and Washington) $865
and $1,339, ttu per cent.
Yale's quarterback, Robert
(Tex) Furse, had a passing aver
age of .619 last fall. This was the
best mark in the nation, includ
ing collegiate and professional
circles.
