table timber designated for cut
ting upon tract! hereinafter des
cribed; the cutting and removal
of the timber to be carried out
In accordance with the forest
practice rulei approved on July
7, 1938, by the Secretary of the
Interior. Each bid must state the
amount per thousand feet, board
measure, tnat will be paid for
each species and the total consid
eration -"hlch will be paid for
the timber. No bid for less than
the appraised value will be con
sidered. Each bid must be submit
ted In duplicate and be accom
panied by a deposit. The deposit
must he In the form of a certi
fied check on a solvent bank
and In favor of the Treasurer of
the United States. The amount of
the deposit will be $5,000.00 pro
vided the total amount bid is
over $5,000.00 and less than $50,
000.00; It will be $10,000.00 pro
vided the total amount bid is
over $50,000.00 and less than
$100,000.00; it will be 10'. of the
amount hid when the bid exceeds
$100,000.00. If the total amount
bid la less than $5,000.00, the de
posit shall be the amount of the
bid. The deposit will be returned
to unsurcesful bidders; applied
as part of the purchase price of
the successful bidder; or that por
tion of the deposit, representing
the minimum required by law,
ahall be retained as liquidated
damage! If the high bidder does
not execute contract and furnish
latisfactory bond within thirty
dayi of acceptance of the bid
or cannot furnish evidence of his
ability to comply with the local

STREET WIDENINC PROPOSED The widening of Military Street
from the Oak Street Bridge to Corey Avenue was recommended
by the City Planning Commission and approved by the City
Council this week. The aerial photo above, taken prior to the
recent war, shows Military Street at the bridge, Corey Avenue
going toward the high school, and Harvard Avenue going west.
The picture does not show the more recently constructed Coen't
houses adjacent to the high fchool rior other improvements in the
vicinity. The two sharp turns that traffic must take proceeding
from the bridge to Harvard Avenue have been discussed from
time to time and various solutions proposed. Mosher Street, also
approved tor widening, is not seen in the above picture.

The NLRB general counsel'
office today asked that the In
ternational Typographical Union
be held in contemnt of court for
Insisting on clor.-d shop con
tracts. The union Is under a five
month old injunction against ne
gotiating such agreements, out
lawed by the Taft-Hartley Act.
In a critical move against the
ITU in its fight to keep the
closed shop, the National Labor
Relations Board's nroseciulno
agency charged the Union's top
officers wilh having dfcobeyed
and disregarded the injunction.
The restraining order was Is
sued March 27 by Judge Luther
M. Swygert at Indianapolis. It '
was there that Robert N. Den-1
ham sent his formal petition that ,
the Union be cited for contempt.
Carroll Martin, an NLRB at
torney, filed the petition this
morning.
Martin said Judge Swygert In
dicated he would decide "In a
day or two" whether to order
the union into court to show
cause why it should not be ad
judged in contempt.
