Achievement Day
Contests Slated A
On August 26th
The annual 4H canning and
gardening Achievement Day will
be held August 26 at Junior
High School in Rosehurg. This
day, which is for 4-H members
in canning, gardening and rose
and llower garden projects, as
well as those who wish to partici
pate in home economics contests,
will begin at 9 a. m. Thursday.
The exhibits are to be In place
by 10 o'clock, but a tew of the
contests will start earlier.
Some of the contests that will
take place and the times are as
follows: The senior and Junior
dollar dinner contests, which be
gins at 9 o'clock; the senior and
junior breadbaking contest, which
will begin between 9 and 10; the
cake baking contest beginning
at 1 p. m., and the Spreckels
canning contest, both divisions
also starting at 1 p. m. Food
demonstrations will be taking
place throughout the day as the
contestants arrive.

Northwest veterans who rein
stated their G. I. insurance just
before the July 31 "easy rein
statement" deadline should pay
another monthly premium to the
Veterans Administration immed
iately to prevent the policy lap
sine again, the VA said today.
Most veterans who reinstated
their National Service Life In
surance last month paid only the
required two-months premiums,
the VA explained. Under G. I.
insurance regulations, one prem
ium covered the 30-day grace
period before the policy lapsed
and the other the month of re
instatement. Therefore, veterans who rein
stated to beat the July 31 dead
line paid only for July Insurance
protection, with another payment
due sometime In August accord
ing to the due date of their policy.
To avoid risk of unknowingly
allowing their insurance to again
lapse, the VA urges veterans to
make another payment immedi
ately. G, I. Insurance premiums mav
be paid monthly, quarterly, semi
annually or annually. Advance
payments, other than monthly.

result in even greater economy
to the G. I. policy holder.
