Reservists Given
Warning on Losing
Draft Exemptions
WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 (.
The Navy warned Its organized
reservists today that If they mist
as few as five weekly drills a
year they'll, lose their draft exemptions.
At the same time, It announced
that young volunteer reservists
I who do not attend regular drills
and are not draft exempt) can
compete for appointment to the
Naval Academy if tHey have had
14 days of active duty before the
examination date next April.
Under the draft law, members
of an organized reserve unit are
exempt only as long at they take
part satisfactorily In drills and
training.
Secretary of the Navy John L.
Sullivan defined "satisfactory
participation" today as not more
than a 10 per cent absence from
the full 48 scheduled drills a
year.
