On June 18, Poland filed a for
mal protect against the Western
Allies' plan for building up West
ern Germany in connei-iion with
the Marshall plan, and permit
ting a measure of "home rule"
lor that area of Germany.
The decisions were taken in
dependently after long and fruit
less efforts to get an agreement
with Russia on treatment of Ger
many as a whole.
Poland protested that the deci
sions violated the Potsdam agree
ments with Russia and failed to
take into account the interests of
various European nations.

all-time record for any June.
The temperature soared to 95.3
on June 8, but this figure was
short of the all-time high of 10i
on June 24. 1!25. The lowest
temperature reading was 47, com
pared with the low est all time
June temperature of 36 on June
19, 1893.
The mean maximum tempera
ture for the month was 76 6. com
pared with a normal of 75.1; the
mean minimum was 54 3. com
pared with a normal of 49.9, and
the mean temperature was 65.5,
compared with a normal mean of
62.5. The mean for June last
vear was 61.0. The warmest mean
was 68.2 in June 1926, the cold-!
est 58.1 in 1893.
The temperature rose above 90
degrees three times, on June 8. I
June 28 and 29, when it reached
95 degrees. j
While the month was wetter
than usual, at 1.78 inches of rain,
June of last year had 3.57 inches,
but the wettest was in 1888 with 1
5.94 inches. The driest was in
1883, when only .01 inches fell.
Thre days last month had more 1
than .25 inches of rain, eight
days more than .01, and two days
w ith a trace of rain.
There were 10 clear days in
June, seven partly cloudy, 13
dourly. Thunderstorms occurred
on June 6 and 8.

Th American Farm Bureau
Federation asked the IVmocrtic
party yesterday to pledge a new
governmental attack on the prob
lem of skyrocketing prices.
Opening hearings on the
Democrat ic platform, H. E.
Slusher. a member of the board
of the powerful farm organiza
tion, proposed specifically that
congress set up a national mone
tary commission to find ways of
stabilizing prices.
"A democracy of free enter
prise cannot flourish and may
not even survive continuing fluc
tuation of the general price
level," said Sltisher. He is presi
dent of the Farm Bureau in
President Truman's home state
of Missouri.
Thus the farm leader brought
up an issue with which Demo
crats hope to win votes in Novem
ber. Mr. Truman and other
Democratic leaders have blamed
the Republican Congress for
swelling prievs since wartime
controls were dropped.
The Democratic platform draft
ers got off to a quiet, friendly
start. But beneath it was an air
of expectancy Sharp and per
haps bitter battles aptieared to be
shaping up over civil rights and
labor planks.
