Morse Would Extend
Social Security Act
WASHINGTON, Nov. 21 CPl
Senator Morse yesterday pro
poned amendments which would
permit agricultural and domestic
workers to come under the social
security act if they wish.
Under the proposal, these work
ers could notify the social secur

sire to qualify for benefits and
pav the required taxes.
"I think the principle of elec

who are opposed to compulsory
advantages of social security cov
erage," the Oregon senator said.

Meyers Admits False
Affidavit for Auto
(Continued on Page Six)
deliveries of new cars.
"No", Meyer replied.
Trapped In Falsehood
Then why, Ferguson shot back,
had Meyers signed an affidavit to
the District of Columbia Auto
Lii'ense Bureau that the car had
been "bought paid for and used
by the Aviation Electric Com
pany before Jan. 1. 1912.'
"Is that your signature?" Fer
guson demanded, turning the afi
davit over to Meyers.
Flushing, Meyers said it was,
but that he had signed it as "Just
a routine thing." He said "any
body would have signed It."
"Why would an officer in the
United States Army file a false
affidavit when there was a ra
tioning order coming up?" Fer
guson demanded.
Meyers repeated that he had
signed it simply as a routine mat
ter. When Committee -Counsel
William Rogers took issue with
him on this, Meyers shouted:
"I think you would have sign
ed it, too, Mr. Rogers."
Rogers angrily declared there
was no call for such a statement.
Ferguson commented that there
would not be much point to affi
davits if they could be explained
away as Meyers was trying to.
Trieslo Shift Blame
Meyers said he did not know
about that, but that he wondered
about the value of affidavits in
the light of "some of the testi
mony that had been taken here."
Under a series of questions,
Meyers insisted that he had no
plans to caslj in on government
contracts when he set up Avia
tion Electric that it was done
solely for the Lamarres.
Lamarre, who left a $35 a week
job to become head of the con
cern, has testified that Meyers
got more than $150,000 In profits
from the firm's million-dollar.
plus aviation subcontracts.
