MEETING WEDNESDAY

Manning, Mrs. Dorothy Rose and
Mrs. Marjorie Dennley were very
gracious hostesses to the Fair
Oaks Industrial Club Wednesday
at the Fair Oaks Church. The
tables were arranged to form an
L which was very novel and beau
tiful bouquets of snapdragons
were arranged In a colorful way.
. The usual knitting and visiting
was enjoyed before lunch. The
main conversation was on now
nice the church looked, since It
had been redecorated, also a serv
ing counter was added. Other
changes are to be made In the
near future, which will add to
the appearance and convenience.
. The business meeting was pre
sided over by the president, Mrs.
Jora Cracroft. The meeting was
opened by repeating the "Lord's
Prayer" in unison, followed by
the Scripture reading by Mrs.
Gladys Adams. Mrs. Evelyn Frot
cher sang "I Love You Truly" for
Eunice Davis, who was married
Sunday. Several other numbers
were sung by the group. General
business was then discussed.
In the place of the regular
meeting in July a picnic will be
held at the Fair Oaks picnic
grounds on July 13. Chairmen
will be Mrs. Martha Davis and
Mrs. Dorothy Norton with Mrs.
Ida Weber and Mis. Evelyn Frot
cher assisting.

The Bee Hive Girls of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
day Saints presented a one-act
xomedy to the Rosehurg branch
of the church Wednesday at 1256
West Harrison Avenue.
; The characters of "Too Many
Marys" was portrayed by the fol
lowing cast: Sully, her own
charming self, Barbara West;
.Viola, u' young artist, Claudia
-Clawson; June, a rather ineffec
tive young actress, Sharon Wilde;
Norah, a very likable Irish maid,
Betty Ann Matthews; Beatrice,
Sally's sophisticated cousin, Ruth
Huffaker; Aunt Sarah, a very
strict aunt who is paying the ex
penses of Sally's education, Ber-
. niece Spelrs.
After the presentation of the
play under the direction of Lo
well Wood, the group participated
in a community sing. Light re-
- freshments, prepared by the Bee
Hive girls, were served.

SUTHERLIN The Mission
ary Guild of the Lutheran Church
held their meeting recently at the
Sutherlln Homes recreation room.
They were honored by the pi es
ence of Reverend William H. Hill
mer, executive secretary of the
Oregon and Washington District
of the Evangelical Lutheran
Synod of Missouri, Ohio and
other states.
After a short business meeting
Reverend Mr. Hillmer showed
colored film that he had taken
on his travels of the Northwest
district. The pictures were of dif
ferent missionary churches in the
Pacific Northwest and beauty
points of Oregon. The discussion
of possibilities of a Sutherlin
mission church followed.
A delicious luncheon was served
by the hostesses of the evening,
Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Malitz. The
balance of the evening was spent
socially. The next meeting will be
at the home of Mrs. Alma Ander
son on June 11.

SUTHERLIN The Young
Adult Group held a very delight
ful meeting and potluck dessert
luncheon last Sunday at the
Methodist Church. The long linen
covered table was centered with
a lovely centerpiece of summer
tlowers.
Mrs. Ivan C. Parker was pleas
antly surprised with a pink and
blue shower. After viewing the
manv lovely gifts a social hour
was enjoyed. The game of making
words out of Mother's Day was
won by Mrs. Fayette Thompson.

o'clock dessert-supper of straw
berry shortcake and collee. ihe
table was centered with a lovely
bouquet of spring flowers.

dren, Mrs. Mahle Ross, Mr. and
Mrs. Leo Gillette, Mrs. Jesse
Cooper, Mrs. Harold Jones, Mrs.

Mrs. Mable Ross was pleasantly
surprised by the presentation of
a purse from the group for her
laltntuilness in playing ine piano
and for all she had done to make
the choir a success.
The pleasant evening hours
were spent socially and jokes
were read from the Classmate
and greatly enjoyed.

Treason Indictment
Filed Against Nisei
LOS ANGELES, June 13.-4.V)
Treason punishable by a possi
ble death sentence was the
charge on which a federal grand
jury indicted Tomoya Kawakita,
25, American-born Japanese ac
cused oi torturing American war
prisoners while he was their
Japanese prison camp foreman;
I he indictment was returned
Wednesday after a number of
witnesses described Kawakita's
alleged brutal and degrading
treatment of American service
men in the Oeyama prisoner of
war camp from Aug. 8, 1944, to
Aug. 24, 1945.
Kawakita recently was arresied
by FBI agents after one of the
former prisoners. William L.
Bruce of San Luis Obispo, Calif.,
recognized him in a department
store here. He had returned to
this country upon representation
that he attended a Japanese
school during the war and had
no part in the war effort.

Shaping Up at Toft

hair, will play the role of King
Eric the Red, ruler of the Tail
Redhead Roundup to be held June
27th, 28th and 29th.
With only two weeks to go,
things are shaping up for one of
the biggest shows Redhead
Roundup has ever given. Posters
showing a gorgeous strawberry
blonde crooking her finger and
saying "Meet Me in Taft," are be
ing distributed throughout the
state. The girl Is so appealing
that storekeepers and merchants

ter?" and the distributor, Bill

Two oldsters, Maude Barrlgar,
77, of Neotsu and Bert Funk, 72,
of Long Beach, California, are the
oldest redheads to have reported
to the Taft Redhead Roundup
headquarters. Hundreds of old
and. young, as well as bathing
beauties, are expected to be heard
from.
