support as a part of our check
; communism policy.
WATCH Italy, If the Italian
communists Moscow direct
led) succeed in taking over Italy,
' we will be effectively fenced off
! from Greece and Turkey.
Already Greece and Turkey are
, mere isolated outposts and
France has become our defense
, against the spread of commun
ism. That is where we shall have
; to make our stand. Even Italy is
too shaky to make much of a
fight for. If the communists take
! France, they will have Europe
' pretty well under their thufnb.
So watch what happens in
France. The final outcome of
what is under way there will be
highly important to us.
ON the other side of the world,
a Chinese (Nationalist) gov
ernmcnt spokesman asserts that
' whatever happened in Sinkiang
was "no ordinary frontier inc.
; dent" and charges Russia with
partial responsibility for Outer
. Mongolia's "invasion" of this far
. western Chinese province.
i Just what happened is obscure
f as these things always ' aro.
There was some sort of bolder
! ruokus. The Mongols accuse the
; Chinese of arresting eight Moiv
; gol soldiers. A detachment of
i their cavalry rode into Sinkiang
j to force their release.
Some kind of scrap followed.
" The Chinese claim the Russian
- warplanes that accompanied the
invaders got oon fused and drop-
pod bombs on their own people.
killing quite a few of them. What
really happened, we can only
guess.
. The Chi nose f orei g n o f f i ce
I spokesman says: "While our local
' military authorities have boon oit
; dorrd to exercise ail possible rfr
; straint in defense of their posi-
tion, the (Chinese) government
has instructed its ambassador in
Moscow to protest to the Soviet
government as well as to On lei'
Mongolia through its minister."
K
KEP your fingers crossed and
watch.
Maybe Russia is reallv reaching
- over to take another bite out uS
China. Maybe she is only running
a bluff on us telling us in this
way that if we get too cagey in
Europe she can take a hand in
the Asiatic poker game also,
. Time will tell.
'
THE point is that both in Eu
rope and in Asia Russia is
' moving to checkmate our new
; slop-communism policy. How far
she will move her men on the
board remains to be seen. Her ad
vantage is that her moves are be
ing made close to her own home
base, whereas we are compelled
; to move at great distances.
Our BEST move is to strength
en ourselves in every possible
way in our own home territory.
H we straighten out our home
situation, restoring our stagger
ingly vast production system to
full efficiency, Russia will think
twice before doing anything that
might start the shooting.
If our product ion system is per
mitted to go to pot, Russia will
move forward confidently to com-
mumxe the worm.
