AFTERNOON MEETING
The Jolly Circle Club spent an
enjoyahle afternoon when Mrs.

home.
Several sewing projects had
been completed and were turned
in by Mrs. Folden, sewing chair
man. Delinhtful refreshments were
served to Mrs. Burger, of San
Pedro, California, who is visiting
her daughter, Mrs. Ralph St.

The Friendly Circle Club met
Wednesday afternoon at the home
of Mrs. Adrian Hulbcrt with Mrs.
Cilen Beach as co-hostess. Follow
ing the business meeting, a social
hour of games and visiting was
enjoyed wiih prizes going to Mrs.
Fred ISouen, Mrs. Arnold Pfaff,
Mrs. Andrew Towns-end and Mrs.
Leslie Pfaff.
At the tea hour delicious re
freshments were served to Mrs.

BRIDGE-LUNCHEON
Mrs. W. I,. Blaker and her
daughter. Mrs. E. R- Sumner,
who is visiting here from Denver,
Colo., were co-hostesses at a very
charming bridge-luncheon and
farewell party at the Episcopal
rectory Tuesday in compliment
to Mrs. John A. Macdoimld, who
is leaving soun for an extended
visit in Eastern Canada.
Beautiful bouquets of .-pring
flowers were arranged about the
rooms. Cuvers were placed for

secretary, organized an Auxiliary
Unit to Baiid lleaton Post at Oak
land, April 1. Mrs. Frances Case
was elected president.
The following day, Mrs. Mlcelli,
Mi-s. Brown and Mrs. V.hiteomb
visked the Canyonville Unit at a
12:30 o'clock luncheon given by
the Fallin l"mt of the American
Legion Auxiliary. That evening,
they attended a dinner meeting
of Umpqua Unit in Rosehurg and
that same evening visited Kelly
Levins Kruse Unit at Drain, after
which Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Whit
comb left for their homes.
On Friday, April 11. M.S. Mi
eelli paid her oflicial visit to 'the
Bandon Unit. She was accom
panied to the coast by her mother,
Mrs. Annie L. Russell.

The bloody, lS-month-old strike of
Kt brotherhoods against the To
ledo. Peoria and Western Rail
road came to an end Thursday
night, a little more than a month
alter the president of the 239-mile
line had In-en slain from ambush.
Executors of the estate of
George P. McNear. Jr.. the 55-year-old
assassinated rail head,
announced a verbal "mutually sat
isfactory" agreement had been
reached and that the strikers
probably would return to work
Mondav.
Details of the settlement still
remained to be worked out but a
union spokesman said they prob
ably would be signed next Mon
day. McNear, who stoutly resisted
the union demands for working
rules similar to those in opera
tion on other railroads, was shot
down as he was taking a custo
mary stroll near his home the
ni"ht of March 10. His slayer.
