Baseball Assn. Heads to
Meet at Changed Date
Postponement of the meeting
of the board of directors of the
Southern Oregon Baseball Asso
ciation was announced today by
Wallace A. Rapp. It will be held
at Medford's Chamber of Com
merce office Sunday, March 30.
The meeting was originally slated
for March 2d.
Rapp added that the meeting
for ball players interested In
Joining the Umpqua Chiefs club
will De held as scheduled Monday,
March 2i, at 7:30 P. M. at Kagles
Hall.
The Medford meeting was can
ecled until the later date because

Life Term for Murder
VALE, Ore., March 21.-iT
Mn. Gladys Lincoln Broadhurst,
convicted slayer of her sixth hus-

well, Idaho, was sentenced to
life imprisonment yesterday.
The sentence, pronounced by
Circuit Judge M. A. Biggs, was
mandatory under the verdict re
turned last Friday.
"I have no statement." the 41-year-old
red head told the court
before sentence was passed. Her
eyes were swollen by weeping but
she was outwardly calm.
She will not start serving the
sentence immediately, however,
as her attorneys have 23 days in
which to present arguments in
support of a motion for a new
trial. i

trial of Alvin Lee Williams, 23,
charged with first degree murder

Meet in Portland
Thirty-odd Roseburg teachers
and many Douglas County teach
eis will attend the 41th annual
convention of Ihe Oregon Educa
tion Association in Portland on
April 7 and 8, according to
C harles N. Hill, president of the
Douglas County Division of the
stale association.
The event is the largest annual
gathering of Oregon teachers and
is Portland's biggest annual con
vention. General session attend
ance is expected to exceed 2,500.
Sessions w ill be held in the city
auditorium.
Mrs. Pearl A. Wanamaker,
president of the National Educa
tion Association, will be one of
the principal convention speakers.
She is widely known for her re
cent activities with the United
Nations Education, Scientific and
Cultural Organization and is
Washington state superintendent
of public Instruction.
Other speakers will Include Dr.
Walter li. Judd, congressman !
from Minnesota and an authority
on untied Mates foreign policy;
Dr. Kenneth McKarlanil, superin
tendent of the Toxka, Kansas,
public schools, and Dr. Wilson

S. Scott's service station early to
day went out through a plate
glass door and was believed
wounded bv his own pistol.
Scott told police he followed
the man's Instructions to put

but as the gunman reached for it,
he let loose a kick. In the follow
ing melee, ihe gunmen fell
through the glass door.
