' SUTHERLIN' A group of girls
from the Christian Church en-
Joyed an overnight trip to Fair
Oaks last Thursday and hnday.
The girls left town at two on
Thursday and returned about the
same time the next day. In order
to have a little privacy in sleep
the girls selected a place across
the stream at Fair Oaks to make
their camp. They waded the
stream with their bedrolls, waded
it to go to bed, and waded it
again in the morning with their
bedrolls. Swimming, outdoor
games and campfire singing were
enjoyed by the girls.
On Friday morning the girls
divided into two groups and had
a contest to see which group
could pick up the most pieces of
broken glass on the pkiy area.
One groun found OH'.) pieces and
the other 800; a total of 1789
pieces.
The girls going on the trip

SUTHERLIN TROOP
ENJOYING WEEK AT CAMP
SUTHERLIN Thirty-two girls
of the Sutherlin Scout Troop are
enjoying a week's outing at the
Wolf Creek Scout camp on Little
River. Ranging in age from 9
to 17, lour patrols under the di
rection of Lyla Chenoweth, man
age and operate the entire camp
nom the cooking to the sports
and games. The youngsters, some
of whom have attended camp
ior lour years, are as competent
as cooks, and the daily routine
is wen taken care oi. several
are learning to swim, others per-
leciing tneir stroke unuer the
direction of Ruth Ferris, a Sen
ior High bchool girl, who has
four years' ca.np evperience with
the Sutherlln girls. She is also
taking charge of the singing and
campfire skits. Other senior
scouts are acting as senior coun
selors in each patrol are: Myrtle
Wilson, Carola Spaekman and
Barbara Grabow. Connie Ander
sen is filling-in in several neces
sary places.
Mrs. Lyilia Gillet, a trained
nurse, has her time filled in
caring for the minor injuries.
Mrs. Lon Hunt is taking the place
of an assistant leader.
Tho senior group left Satur
day morning to establish camp,
and things were all cleaned tip
and ready when the balance of
the troop arrived Sunday In the
big wood truck belonging to the
Red Diamond Fuel Company, and
driven by Mrs. Grace Cornish,
assisting in transportation of the
groceries were, Jerry Van Ko
men, Harry Scroggins and Bob
Michael. Mr. Van Komen forded
the river with his station wagon
and drove into camp carrying all
of the heavy supplies.

June Jones, Ruby McCoy, Patty
Roller, Shirley Morris, Wanda
Meade, Popv Sutter, Jacqueline

Mrs. Ruby Dyer of
e Creek Dies
Mrs. Ruby Dyer, age 85, well
known resident of Myrtle Creek,
died at the Myrtle Creek Hospital
Monday. She was horn in Myrtle
Creek on Aug. 28, 1861, the daugh
ter of Joe and Sarah Cornelison,
pioneer residents of that com
munity, and her entire life was
lived at Myrtle Creek. Mrs. Dyer
was a member of the Christian
Church at Myrtle Creek and a
charter member of the Rebekah
Lodge of that city.
Surviving are the following
sons and daughters: Joe W. Dyer,
Mrs. Bessie Maddox and Capitola
Abbott, all of Myrtle Creek, and
Claude McCarty of Pilot Rock,
Ore. A sister, Mrs. Charles Strong
of Myrtle Creek, and a brother,
John Cornelison, High River,
Canada, and four grandchildren
also survive. Mr. Dyer died a num
ber of years ago.
The body has been removed to
the Douglas Funeral Home and.
funeral service will be announced
upon the arrival of the son from
Pilot Rock.
Services will be held Thursday
at 2 o'clock at the Christian
Church in Myrtle Creek. The Rev.
Mr. Powell will officiate.

Lineman Electrocuted

Electrical Compsny, was killed
yesterday when his body contact
ed a 120 voldt wire while working
on a power pole. v
His widow and two sons were
vacationing on the Oregon coast.

Henninger Bros, of Roseburg,
who are taking immediate posses
sion. The store will be managed

which is to be known as Henning-ers-Thrift

Mr. Thrift, formerly owner of

recently discharged from military
service, after two years in the
