mer occurred Wednesday when
the Tenmile Ccmmunit" Circle
held their regular meeting at
the lovely home of Mrs. R. D.
Lockwood and had as guests the
Camas Valley Garden Cluo.
Many of whom brought seasonal

under the direction of Mrs. Norah
Boyle and Mrs. Minnie Mellius.

mile Club and cave a short res
ume of the work done by the
club for the last few months.
Several flour contest-games were
played and Mrs. Belle Clark read
the article regarding the early
history of the Tenmile Church
and slated that September 6, 1925,
the Historical Society of the
Mothodist Episcopal Church of
Oregon honored the little pioneer
church of Tenmile bv placing
ttiereon a memorial taoiet, one
of the many such tablets being
placed by this society. The tab
let is inscribed with the name
of the church, organized in 1858
wilh Thomas Coats, class leader;
James Olmstead and Thomas
Oilivant. stewards. The church
was built in 1870, at which time
Rev. J. H. Skidmore was pastor
and Rev. T. L. Toyal, presiding
elder. Trustees were Thomas
Coats, J. A. Richards, K. B. Ire
land, Thomas Heal, Thomas Oili
vant, A. E. McCulIock, C. An
drews, Thomas Newland and W.
K. Klook. The tablet was placed
on the church by Rev. S. A. Dan-
ford, district superintendent for
the Church Cfinferenr-p Tlilnri.

pastor of the church in 1925. An
all-day celebration was held and
addresses were given bv Rev. Mr.
Danlord and Rev. Joseph Knott.
The club is having the tablet
mentioned repainted in addition
to making a number of repairs i
to the church. Miss Margaret j
Page, of Roseburg, who is great-1
ly interested in this work, has
very kindly tendered a generous
donation toward the fund.
The next meeting of the: club
will be held at the church,

son, eleven miles east of Rose
burg. Twenty-two members and
menus were present.
A long table at which all were
comfortably seated in the spa
cious dining room, was resplend
ent in "learning silverware, light
ed candles and cut flowers.
Timely religious nnd civic
topics were discussed about the
table after the dinner, and a free
will offering for foreign relief
was taken which amounted to
something over ten dollars.
The afternoon was pleasantly
spent in visiting and strolling
about the well-kept grounds of
the estate. At the conclusion of
the afternoon a song-test of the
beautiful hymns of the church
was enjoyed by the entire com
pany with Mrs. Marion Cobb at
the piano. Then the Rev. Mr.
Needhain, on behalf of the Bible
class, expressed their hearty ap
preciation of the gracious hos
pitality extended them by the
host and hostess.

Housing for Vets at
Vanport College Sought
PORTLAND, June 21. UP)
Anticipating a flood of veterans
at Vanport College next fall, the
Portland Housing Authority has
asked the National Housing
Agency to reactivate 616 housing
units at Vanport City.
The units are among 1484 re
cently ordered dismantled. The
State Board of Higher Education
said enrollment, about 500 this
summer, may reach 1000 to 2000
for fall and winter terms.
Pioneer Queen Crowned
PORTLAND, June 21. UP)
Mrs. Mary E. Myers, 94, Portland,
oldest pioneer woman present,
was crowned queen on the Ore
gon Pioneer Association at its
meeting yesterday.
She was born in Tualatin a year
after her parents crossed the
plains to Oregon.
Harry L. Roes, 87, Portland,
was named association president.
