Bruce Elliott and daughter, Pa
tricia, and son, Arthur Logan,

Roseburg, following a stay In
Portland, where Mrs. Elliott took
care of her sister's baby while
the sister was in the hospital.

Back From Cottage Grove D.
W. Keasey, Jr., has returned to
his home in Roseburg, following
a trip to Cottage Grove to take
his wife, who was called by tne
serious illness of her brother,
who suffered a ruptured appendix
last week and underwent an emer
gency operation. Mrs. Keasey,
Jr.. remained in Cottage Grove
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
William Garlinghouse.
Leave for South Mrs. Mar
guerite Belford and daughter,
Monte Jo., and son. Donnie Mack,
of Dupont. Wash., and Miss
Frances Fisher of Vancouver,
Wash., left Tuesday for Glendale,
Calif., to visit, folowlng a short
stop-over in Roseburg. They were
accompanied by Mrs. Beitoras
daughter-in-law. Mrs. Joseph H.
Belford, nee Betty Pattison of
Roseburg, who now resides at
Dupont, Wash., and who will
visit her parents on the Calkins
road until Saturday.
Mrs. Maud M. Jones!
Dies in Roseburg
Mrs. Maud May Jones, 62, resi
dent of Eugene, Oregon, died
in Roseburg at the Roseburg
Sanitarium after a long period
of ill health. Mrs. Jones was
born May 20, 1884, at Spi ingmills,
Pa., and was married to Mr.
Jones February 24, 1002, at Boals
burg, Pa. She had been a resi
dent of the state for the past 20
years.
Surviving her besides her hus
band, E. E. Jones of Eugene,
Oregon, are the following chil
dren: Mrs. C. C. Shaull, Paulsbo,
Wash.; Ray Jones, Lookineglass
Route, Roseburg; Mrs. E. H.
Hertzog, Wenatchee, Waih.. and
Mrs. Harry Dreier, Red Bluff,
Calif.; also the following broth
ers and sisters: Mrs. J. K. Mor
tensen, Everett, Wash.; Mrs.
Sarah Deitzel, Waterville, Pa.;
Mrs. Carrie Huffman. Avis. Pa.:
William Wolfe, Centerhall, Pa.;
Charles Wolfe, State College, Pa.,
and Orvis Wolfe, Avis, Pa.
Mrs. Jones was a member of
the Open Bible Standard Church
of Eugene. Reverend Mr. Horn
shuh of the Portland Church of
the Open Bible Standard will
conduct the services, which will
be held in the chapel ot tne
Douglas Funeral Home Saturday
at 4:00 P. M. Interment will fol
low in the Masonic Cemetery.
Arrangements are in charge of
the Douglas Funeral Home.
Undergoes Major Operation
According to word received in
Roseburg, Mrs. Vernon Keel re
cently underwent a major opera
tion at Huntsville. Ala., and is
convalescing satisfactorly. Mrs
Keel and son, Tommy, left their
home in Roseburg June 1 for
Alabama to spend the summer
months with relatives. They
were joined there last week by
Mr. Keel, owner of Keel's Motor
Company, Roseburg, who was
with Mrs. Keel during tne opera
tion and who is remaining with
his fathqr, who is reported to be
in very poor neaitn.

Baptist church.
Surviving are a number of

of friends. Funeral services will
be held in the ehapel of the Doug
las Funeral Home Saturday after
noon at 2:00 o'clock. Interment
will follow in the family plot in
the Masonic cemetery.

Narcisse Conn, Native
Of Melrose, Dies at 82
Narcisse LaRaut Conn, 82, well
known oioneer resident of Rose
burg and vicinity, died yesterday
at Mercv nosoital after a short
illness. Mr. Conn was born De
cember 22, 1863, at Melrose. He
was the son of the late Henrv
and Mary Jane Conn.
Mr. Conn was an ordained min
ister. He followed the ministry
as a young man. then entered law
school, from which he graduated
and was admitted to the bar. The
greater part of his life was spent,
however, in farming and stock
raising at Melrose and Flourno"

bills for use of state legislatures,
or insurance commissioners
where laws are not required,
were approved in final sessions
of the convention of the National
Association of Insurance Com

The model bills would reculate
rates for casualty and surety and
fire, marine and inland marine
insurance which the U. S. Su
preme Court ruled is subiect to
the Sherman anti-irusi aci.

Calif., cattle buyer for a large
packing firm of San Francisco,

business. Mr. Brown's wife is the
former Helen Ziegler of Roseburg.
