Wool Industry
Stabilizing
Need Studied

Congress soon will be asked (o

sign for a stabilized wool Industry.

told a reporter today that legis
lation along the line of the Presi
dent's recommendations will be
prepared at once.
The proposals, made Tuesday
In a letter to O'Mahoney, chair
man of the special Senate Wool
Investigating Committee, resulted
from continued protests by wool
growers that the industry Is in
serious condition. The war years
were unprofitable ones, wool men
say, and uncertainty over the fu
ture is driving many producers to
liquidation of their holdings.

formula. Mr. Truman recom
mended that no reduction be made

iH.-Wyo.l expressed belief in an

United States has dropped from
411,000,000 to 38,000,000.
Barrett said the chief effect of
the proposed legislation would be
to encourage woolgrowers to stay
in business and increase their
herds.
Today, sheepmen don't know
how long the support program
will be continued, and they fear
competition from foreign growers
with lower operating costs, he
asserted.
Costs of the proposed program
would be paid for out of customs
duties. Mr. Truman said in his
letter to O'Mahoney that he felt
