Walter Melvin Hughes, age 23,

died at Camp Kilmer, New Jer
sey, Dec. 7. He was born at
Roseburg, April 10, mil. He
moved to Coos Bay from Rose
burg, and was graduated from
high school In that city with the
class of Kill). Hp worked in the
shipyards at Portland, Oregon,
for several months and then en
listed in the Army.

home Tuesday following receipt
of his honorable discharge at
Fort Lewis, Wash. He is imme
diately resuming his law prac

Wright, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Perry Wright of lllahee, return
ed to Roseburg Sunday from ser
vice :.i the Army, and will spend
some time visiting on the
ranch of his parents. Donald, a
paratrooper, was captured and
held by the Germans for a num
ber of months before the end of
the war. He returned to the
United States by way of Russia,
the Black Sea and the Mediterranean.

William Verdun Boucock, son of
Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Boucock of
Roseburg, received his honorable
discharge from the U. S. Army
last week at Camp Bcale, Calif.,
and with his wife and little son
arrived In Roseburg Saturday.

West Oak Street.

ceived his honorable discharge
frcm servicj at Bremerton, Wash.,
today and is expected to arrive in
Roseburg Fridav. His wife and
small son, Bobby, made their
home at the Fies residence in
Laurelwood during the war. Mr.
lies served in the South Pacific
war area.

Roseburg until next Tuesday with
Captain Kidder's parents, Air. and
Mrs. S. L. Kidder, and his aunts,
Mrs. J. E. Sawyers, Miss Gertrude
Rast and Mrs. W. S. Hamilton.
Captain Kidder Is the youngest
son of the S. L. Kidders. He has
been serving with the U. S. Army
in Germany and, following his
leave, he will report back to
Camp Meade, Maryland, and later
return to Germany to be with the
American occupational forces. He
has received the Presidential Ci
tation and the Silver Star.

Raymond Bell, who was recently
returned to the States following
service with the U. S. Army in
France and Germany, is now at
tending University of Michigan
at Ann Arbor, taking a special
course cf study preparatory to
being reassigned to duty. He is
reported to be one of 10 selected
to attend the university to pre

are with him at Ann Arbor. Lt.
Col. Bell is a nephew of Miss
Minnie Hell of Roseburg and a
