Drive Progresses
In Dsuglas County
Directors of the Infantile
paralysis campaign in all areas
over Douglas county report that
committees have been formed
and are actively functioning to
promote five community dances
distribute bottles Sor donations,
canvas homes and businesses,
sell buttons and work out other
money-raising events, Roy Sund
erland, chairman of the Douglas
.County chapter of the National
Foundation for Infantile Paraly
sis reported today theaters are
assisting in the "March of
Dimes" which annually consti
tutes a big part of the national
campaign.
Events scheduled to boost the
drive for. a "mile of dimes,"
dominate the calendar in the
' final week of the current cam
paign, ending January 31. A total
of $875.75 has been turned in to
the treasurer to make 515 feet,
The drive over the county at
large is just begining to function.
While this is only 10 per cent
of the goal, it is felt that when" re
ports come In from the many
committees now working, the
"mile of dimes" will likely be
achieved.
Danoe, Scheduled
Few detailed reports have been
received from areas outside of
Roseburg, but it is known that
dances are planned in the . lead
ing communities. In Sutherlin
Mrs. M. Patterson, president of
the PT-. A., has been appointed
director in the place of Mrs.
Henry Wahl, who will assist.

In glendale Mrs. L. Walker has
been appointed to be director in
the place of Mrs. Monte Bates.
In addition to other plans, a bene
fit dance has teen scheduled for
Saturday.
Dance committees in Reedsport
under the joint directorship of
Everett Wright and E. G. Dunn
are at work, Mrs. Madge Gaziey
of Myrtle Creek is reported to
have committees actively work
ing, and to have arranged for a
dance there Saturday.
The President's ball dated
Monday, January 29, for the
Roseburg armory is being hand
led in its entirety by the Lions
club, General chairman is Cai
Felker, who reports that the com
mittee meets tonight to work
out the plans for sale of tickets,
decorations and program. Paul
Lund's orchestra will play.
Granges Also Aiding
Several Granges have made
contributions and members are
playing an active part in stim
ulating the small clubs, sewing
circles and community groups in
to sending contributions to the
Douglas county chapter. Melrose
South Deer Creek, Evergreen,
Riversdale, Glide, Camas Valley,
Riddle, Sutherlin, Kellogg, Sun
nydale, and Elkhead granges
have been enrolled in the promo
tional activities for their areas.
Mrs. Maxine Hennincer, chair
man of the women's division tor I
the county, reports that button i
sale plans are going ahead, and
that buttons are expected to be
sold as widely as possible over the
county.
Joe. Wikoff, chairman of the
committee for union and business
solicitation reports that his com
mittee for the Roseburg Lumber
company has been appointed, and
that Lester Williams, president
of the district council of A.. F. of
L., is appointing persons to take
charge of solicitation of employes
in all mills of the county in which
his organization operates.

Another Smoker

High Boxing Class
. The Roseburg High school box
ing class is preparing to stage
another public smoker at the
Roseburg armory on Wednesday,
February 14, Principal O. J. Mon
ger reported today. A smoker held
a few weeks ago proved very pop
ular and many fans have .been
asking for another such program,
Monger stated.
A large number of students are
taking taxing training under -the
direction of Roy Sunderland,
Roseburg oil company manager
and former navy boxer, workouts
being held In connection with the
regular school athletic periods
coupled with two night dosses
each week. t
Some of the ibest bouts of the
last card will be repeated, It is
announced, and new matches will
be arranged to eive & program
of 12 three-round bouts
Plans also are being considered
for an lnter-clty boxing tourna
ment between students of Rose
burg and Springfield High
schools, with possibility .of a
public card in the early spring,
Principal Monger said.
