cormick, who as chairman of the
national democratic committee
helped to re-elect Woodrow Wil
son for a second term during
World War one, said editorially
today that they cannot support
President Roosevelt for a fourth
term.
The editorial states that four
years ago the papers could not
support Roosevelt for a third
term and "dearly cannot sanc
tion the greater violence to

(AP) Mrs. Rose Greer, whose
ear killed a five-year-old boy In

has been In Rome, Naples and

Word has been received here
by Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Rand that
LI. Col. James C. Crowson, army
chaplain, formerly pastor of the
M. E. church, South, in Roseburg,
has been returned to the United
Slates and Is now stationed as
chaplain at the Waac training
center at Fort Dcs Moines, Iowa.
He reports he would be glad to
hear from his Roseburg friends.
Sergeant Stanley E. Boyle, son
of Mrs. Charles M. Spain, for
merly Mrs. Harry Boyle of Rose
burg and now of Compton, Calif.,
Is now with the 534th bomb
squadron stationed in England.
Mrs. Spain's other son, Staff Ser
geant Leo D. Boyle, is with the
506th Infantry, ,company E, In
England.
Private Bob Elliott, son of Mr.
and Mrs. A. E. Elliott of Rose
burg, has completed his basic
training in the U. S. army and
is now taking special training in
the clerk school at Camp Robin
son, Ark., according to word re
ceived here. Before entering the
service, Private Elliott was an
employee of Hunt's Indian thea
tre. According to word received by
Mrs. Floyd Wilson, her husband,
M 2c Floyd Wilson, U. S. navy,
Is now stationed in the Caribbean.
He was formerly employed by the
SI Dillard Motor company.
Navy Plants in Need of
30.000 More Workers
WASHINGTON, July 20 (AP)
Ralph A Bard, undersecretary
of the navy, reported yesterday a
shortage of .10,000 workers in na
vy shipyards and production
plants, "principally on the Pacific
coasts."
He gave the figure In a state
ment addressed to workers
hi all navy establishments, in
which he said that the navy's
production program "is still in
creasing." An end to the war in Europe,
he said, is not expected to affect
the program.
"Our battle of production," he
said, "will end only with the de
feat of Japan."

Troop 31, Roseburg, were among
the Boy Scouts attending this
summer camp on Blue river who
climbed the Middle Sister last
Tuesday.
Under the leadership of Ray
Sims, member of the Eugene Ob
sidians, a party of 30 from the
scout camp made the first trip
this year to the top of the 10,-037-foot
mountain. The trip is one
ol the highlights of this year's
seven-week carqp, operated by the
Oregon Trail Council.
