DR. CHARLES A. EDWARDS
Some time back we read an
interesting story of an experi
ence of a young flying officer
In the American "Flying
Corps." Out over the ocean
he was flying a "Fortress"
alone, when he saw a terrible
storm approaching with light
ning rapidity. Knowing he
could outrun it, he had to de
cide quickly what was best to
be done. He tells his own
story thus:
I looked down to see if I
could go underneth the storm
and light on the sea,, but the
ocean was already boiling with
fury. There was but one
thing to do, to rise above it,
and I turned my ship toward
the sky and let her mount
3,500 feet, and then the storm
struck me. A hurricane, cy
"lone and typhoon all in one.
The sky became black as mid
night. I realized that the only
thing I could do was to try
and keep climbing. Suddenly,
above the storm and clouds, I
swept out into sunlight. It
seemed like the glory of an
other world, . and there, high
nil in the heavens, above the
clouds, above tile storm, I wor
shiped ; God, devoutly ' thank
ng Him for my deliver
ance." The way up was for
him the way out. Is not that
he way for us also? The
Psalmist looked up in his dis
tress and was not disappointed.
ad Kindly Light, amid the
encircling gloom.
Lead thou me on.
The night is dark and I am
far from home.
Load thou me on. Amen.
