a diary from Geneva. After the
death of the famous Norwegian
explorer and humanist, . Fridjof
Nansen, she worked, for several
years collecting material about
his work, with the assistance of
scholarships from the Norwe
gian Academy of Letters and Sci
ence and the Nobel Institute of
Peace in Oslo.
In 1936, she went to , Spain ,
where she was to remain for al
most two years, in close contact
with the Intrepid International
Brigade, t)ie advanceguard of de
mocracy; workers and soldiers
from all cburitries, who poured to
Spain in the Scandinavian coun.

Her Jast book, .."A Thousand
Norwegian Ships", deals with th
Norwegian, merchant . marine,
during this war, and is based on
hundreds of interview with Nor
wegian sailors from all over the
world.
