DR. CHARLES A. EDWARDS
"Wherefore in all things It
behooved him to be made like
unto his brethren, that he
might be a merciful and faith
ful High Priest." Jesus took
upon himself the form of a
man and became subject unto
death In order that he might
bring us to God. It is a glo
rious truth that it behooved
him who knew no sin to take
upon himself the sins of us all
that he might make reconcilia
tion for the sins of the people.
In that he himself has suffer
ed, he knows our sorrow, He
has experienced every form
and kind of suffering. Not a
burden we bear but he knows
Its weight. Not a pain we en
dure but he knows its bitter
ness.' Not a sorrow we have
that he does not share, not a
disappointment we suffer that
he does not know the anguish.
He emptied the cup of human
suffering to the dregs, and
sympathizes with us fully In all
our griefs. Through his suffer
ing he became a merciful high
priest In all things pertaining
to God. His coming Is as a
high priest to offer a sacrifice
which takes away the sin and
guilt of life. Not only was He
a great teacher tolling us
about God, but ho Is a meat
Saviour making atonement for
our sins. He not only tells us
what wo ought to do. but he
enables us to do lt. Indeed ho
is able to succor all who arc
tempted and to save to the ut
termost. Amen.
