rective's possible effect on a de
cision in the coal mine wage dis
pute, but one 0 them, who cannot
be identified, made this comment
in response to n question: "The
board is no longer prohibited by
any rigid rule from doing justice."

May Allay Labor Ire
Labor members would not com
mi nt immediately for reasons of
organization policy, but there was
unquotable evidence that this
partial restoration of the board's
discretionary power went a long
way toward turning off the heat
that was sure to be engendered
at CIO and AFL meetings begin
ning today.
The CIO vice presidents meet
today In Cleveland and the ex
ecutive board meets there tomor
row. The AFL executive council
will convene next Monday in
Washington. Their protests are
expected to lie concentrated on
prices. Labor leaders had de
nounced the hold-the-line order as
u "straitjacket" for the War
Labor board while providing Utile
effective control over prices. The
WLB Itself called the April 8 or
der "unworkable" without some
clarification.
Robert Bonebrake, son of Mr.
and Mrs. J. F. Bonebrake, Rose
burg, has been promoted to com
mand a fighter squadron in the
army air forces at Providence, K.
I., according to word received by
his parents. He was commission
ed as a captain in the air forces
several months ago and has been
serving as an instructor at Or
lando air base, Orlando, Fla. He
was recently promoted to com
mander of the squadron and
transferred to Rhode Island,
where he is In charge of 25 planes
and all ground equipment, the
squadron property being valued
at more than three million dol
lars. He has command over 300
officers and enlisted men. A
graduate of Roseburg high school,
he attended college In Texas and
was employed with the war de
partment at Washington, D. C,
prior to his enlistment In the air
forces-
mound by Ward, Wlmberly'and
Cummlngs. Marsters and Ward
worked, behind the bat. Looking
glass was limited to one hit, while
seven errors contributed to Rose
burg's 15 runs. The Indians made
two errors and collected 15 hits.
Roseburg plays a return game
with Myrtle Creek on Flnlay
field this afternoon in an at
tempt to repeat their victory won
at Myrtle Creek, 8 to 5, in extra
Innings last Tuesday. Friday af
ternoon the Indians will have
their principal game of the sea
son, meeting University high of
Eugene at 3 p. m. on Finlay field.
Funeral Services Set
For Mrs. B. S. Nichols
Funeral services for Mrs. Brltt
S. Nichols, who died Wednesday
at her home in Roseburg follow
ing a long illness, will be conduct
ed by the Rev. Morris H. Roach
at the Presbyterian church at 2
p. m. Friday. Services will be
concluded at the I. O. O. F. ceme
tery. The Roseburg Undertaking
company is In charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Lcroy Peterson, son of
Mrs. Mary Peterson, Roseburg,
recently was promoted to, first
class petty officer rating In the U.
S. navy. He has been stationed
recently in the Hawaiian Islands.
A brother, Master Sergeant
Olaf Peterson, News-Review em
ployee, is In the army service in
New Guinea.

her husband now is taking basic
training with nn engineer regi
ment at Camp Claiborne, La., and
has been advanced to private first
class after four weeks of train
ing. He reports that the work is

Moore, 63. He was born In De
troit, Mich., May 9, 1879, and
from all records received has no
known relatives Rev. Charles A.
