ROSEBURG WOMAN'S CLUB
Mrs.' Harry F. Hatfield, who
has served a very successful year
as president of the Roseburg
Woman's club for 1941-42, was re
elected president of the club for
1942-43 at an Interesting one
thirty o'clock dessert-luncheon
meeting of the club held Tuesday
at the clubhouse. Mrs. George
Frew was chairman of the hostess
committee and was assisted In
serving by Mrs. Maude Fields.
Beautiful bouquets of coral bells,
columbine and spirea decorated
the tables.
Other officers elected for the
ensuing year besides the presi
dent, Mrs. Hatfield, included: first

ter presented an interesting roll
call topic on. Generals. High
praise was given by the club
members to the roll-call topic
speakers for the year and the
members urged the roll-call

he coming year.
Plans were discussed for the
coming year's activities and ar
rangements were made for enter
taining the Eellview club mem
bers at the annual club picnic to
bo held at one o'clock May 19th

JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB
The Junior Woman's club held
nomination of officers at a very
enjoyable business meeting Mon
day night at the clubhouse with
Mrs. C. E. Smith, president, In
charge.
Nominations included: presi
dent, Mrs. C. E. Smith and Mrs.
Adrian Bowen; first vice-presi
dent, Mrs. Norman Hess and Mrs.
Fletcher Gardner; second vice-
president, Mrs. Carl Wassom and
Mrs. George Hammer; treasurer,
Mrs. Robert Harris; secretary,
Mrs. J. E. Henbest; sergeant at
arms, Mrs. Don Johnson and Mrs.
Fred Dent; first year director,
Miss Dorothy Crummett, and sec
ond year director, Mrs. Perry
Thiele. The nominating commit
tee was composed of Mrs. Fletch
er Gardner and Mrs. Norman
Hess.
Those present included Mrs. C.

The next meeting will be held
at the clubhouse May 18, at which
time the mothers of the members
will be guests of honor. Mrs.
George Hammer and Mrs. Fletch
er Gardner will be in charge of
the decorations and tables; Miss
Myrle Erickson and Miss Beatrice
Cooney will be in charge of the
menu and invitations, and Mrs.
Norman Hess will be chairman of

RIVERSDALE GRANGE
HAS MEETING FRIDAY
Riversdale grange met at the
hall Friday evening with Over
seer C. T. Tipton presiding. Forty
three members were present.
Election of a new master and
overseer took place with Mr. Tip
ton being elected master and Mrs.
Ray Hampton, overseer. Eldon
Ogle, former master, resigned re
cently to go into defense work at
Medford.
Excellent reports were made by
committee chairmen. The home
economics club will meet Friday,
May 8, at the hall with a 12:30
potluck luncheon at noon.

for the meeting of May 15 in

CLUB HAS MEETING

Parent Teachers club held their
regular meeting at the Arts
Building, Tuesday afternoon with
the vice-president, Mrs. Mildred
Culver, In charge.
The meeting was opened by all
members present singing one
verse of America. Mrs. Frank
Martin kindly furnished the piano
accompaniment.
As the secretary was absent
there were no minutes of the
previous meeting to be read. "The
treasurers report was given and
approved,
Through discussion about the
4-H club scholarship it was found
that the club has enough money
for a scholarship and a half. A
motion was made and seconded.
that it be left up to Mr. Britton
to choose the persons to receive
the scholarship. The subject of
Edna Ruth Real being promised

year was brought up and it was
decided that the president and
Mr. Britton discuss the matter.
The nomination committee sub
mitted the following names for
officers for the ensuing year:

be a father and son banquet at
the high school the evening of
May 7tji. A very interesting pro
gram has been arranged. Dr.
George Simmons will talk on his
travels In Europe. Waldo Davis,
who is a musician, will play the
piano. Both men live In Eugene.
The speaker of the evening will
be Earl Snell, of Salem. The
meeting will start at 7:30.
The ladies of the Methodist
church will furnish the supper.
There will be a small charge for
each plate.

Catholic church will sponsor an
all-day rummage sale Saturday,

A series of five benefit card
parties has been planned for the
USO rooms, the first of which
will be sponsored by the Junior
Woman's club next Wednesday
evening, May 13, at 8 o'clock at
the USO rooms in the Kohlhagen
building.
Prizes will be awarded winners
in contract bridge, five-hundred
and pinochle. At the close of the
series of five parties, grand priz
es will be awarded winners in :he
three card games. Reservations
for the affair may be made by
calling Mrs. George Crenshaw at
188-R or Mrs. Clifford E. Smith at

served following the card play.

Youthful Driver Fined
For Lack of License
W. W. Hart, 17, of Medford,
en route to Portland to secure em
ployment in a shipyard, was halt
ed here today and fined $5 for
operating an automobile without
a driver's license. The youth told
Justice of the Peace Ira B. Riddle,
the latter reported, that he had
purchased a "jalopy" In which to
make the trip, and, being in a
hurry to reach Portland, did not
wait to secure a license. State
police also reported that he had
failed to procure a muffler for
the car, which was the cause of
