and Glendale at a very lovely af
fair Thursday evening at the Ma
sonic temple. Miss Gladys H.
Strong presided as worthy mat
ion In the absence of Mrs. S. J.
Shoemaker.
Beautiful baskets of spring
flowers were used about the
chapter 'room. The program in
cluded beautiful pianoand solo
vox numbers by Mrs. Myrtle
Burr; reading of a three-act com
edy by Miss Helen Casey, assisted
by Mrs. Edward G. Kohlhagen
and Mrs. Frederick J. Porter, and
two very lovely vocal solos by R.
M. Church, accompanied by Mrs.
Homer Grow.
Following the program lovely
iuiii-Miint-ms were served at
lautifully appointed tables In the
banquet room. Pale yellow, white
and orchid spring flowers were
used on the tables. Covers were
placed for seventy-five. Mrs. G. M.
Krell and Mrs. Grant Osborn
were joint chairmen of the hos
tess committee and were assisted
by Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Buell, Mr.
and Mrs. J; D. Osborn, Mrs. Ed
ward G. Kohlhagen. Mrs. George
Kohlhagen-,. Miss Margaret Page,
Mrs. Morgan Lawson, Mrs. W. R.

Invocation was given by Mrs.
John William Robertson and the
worthy1 patron, Earl Wiley, acted
as muster' of ceremonies and
called on the visiting guests for
short talks;

ANNUAL EXHIBIT AND
TEA TO BE APRIL 30

church parlors to formulate plans
for holding its annual spring tea
and exhibit at the church the aft
ernoon and evening of April 30th.
Mrs. Annie L. Russell, presi
dent, conducted the meeting and
Mrs. Charles A. Edwards eon
ducted' the devotions. The commit
tees ln charge of the annual tea
and exhibit made plans for hav
ing exhibits throughout the en
tire parlors of the church.
A spinning demonstration will
be a feature of the afternoon at
the exhibit and the -person in
charge of this will be dressed in
an old-fashioned costume. The
ladies are planning to exhibit ar
ticles not shown- at their affair
last year. A very Interesting pro
gram has been planned for botn
afternoon and evening ana re
freshments will be served.
Quilts, hand made laces and ta
ble cloths, antiques (featuring
a large assortment of pioneer ar
ticles owned by residents of Doug
las county) needlepoint and rugs
will be included in the displays.
Mrs. J. D. Osborn and Mrs. V. J.
Micelli are acting as joint chair
men of the affair. The exhibit will
include a display of hats, fashion
ed 85 to 90 years ago.
A large part of the proceeds of
this benefit affair will go to the
Children's Farm Home at Cor
vallis. A most cordial invitation
has been extended to the public
to enjoy the affair.
JANE WANGEMAN BECOMES
BRIDE OF RUDOLPH KALINA
AT EUGENE ON APRIL 8TH
Of much interest here is the
wedding of Miss Jane Wangeman,
lovely daughter of Mrs. Irene B.
Wangeman, of Roseburg, and Ru
dolph Kalina at the Presbyterian
church in Eugene Wednesday af
ternoon, April 8th, at five o'clock.
The wedding was attended by
about thirty-six friends and rela
tives of the couple. Sorority sis
ters of the bride acted as attend
ants. The bride was beautiful in a
dusty rose ensemble with brown
accessories and a corsage of hya
cinth buds and forget-me-nots.
Immediately following the cere
mony the young couple left on a
wedding trip, after which they
will make their home in Salem.
Attending the wedding from
Roseburg were: Mrs. Irene B.
Wangeman, mother of the bride,
Mrs. Margaret Brown and Mrs.
James Tynan.
The bride was graduated from
Roseburg senior high school in
1939 and for the last three years
has been a student at University
of Oregon. She is a member of
Alpha Delta Pi sorority. The
bridegroom attended high school
in Malin, Oregon, and was later
graduated from University of
Oregon. He is now employed at
the state capital in the Public
Utilities department of the state
house.

CLUB ENJOYS SCHOOL

Art and Embroidery club enjoyed
a school-days program and cos
tume party Wednesday afternoon
at the home of Mrs. George
Cluck. Mrs. A. D. Hawn acted as
the school teacher and the pro
gram was very greatly enjoyed.

MARRIES EASTER SUNDAY
AT VANCOUVER, WASH.
Mr." and Mrs. J. J. Simmons, of
Glendale, Ore., have received
word from their son, John, an
nouncing his marriage to Miss
Alieen Bush, of Portland, Ore.,
Easter Sunday, April 5th, at Van
couver, Washington. Rev. Carl
Mills, of the Friends church in
Vancouver, performed the cere
mony. The bride, who was given In
marriage by her brother, Eldon
Bush, was charming in white
gown, trimmed in lace. She wore
a white clasp in her hair and
carried a bride's shower bouquet
of mixed flowers. Mrs. Nancy De
Coole was matron of honor and
was lovely in a pink lace gown
trimmed in blue. She carried a
small nosegay of pink carnations
and maiden hair fern. Dolph Had
dley was best man and Elwood
and Howard Egdeston, cousins of
the bride, were ushers.
Preceding the ceremony, Vella
Egdeston, a cousin of the bride,
played, "I Miss You Most in My
Dreams," after which she play
ed the Wedding March from
Lohengrin.
The bridegroom was bcrn in
Santa Paula, Calif., where he at
tended grade school and two
years of high school, before go
ing to Glendale, where he was
graduated from high school in
1938. In 1940 he enlisted in the
army air corps as a radio opera
tor and was first stationed at
Moffitt Field, Calif., then at Bell
ville, Illinois, where he completed
his course and was then transfer
fed to Hamilton field and ad
vanced to the rank of corporal.
Following his transfer to Port
land air base, he was advanced to
the rank of; sergeant and is now
staff sergeant. MF. a'hd Mrs. Sim
mons will make their home in
Olympia, Wash.

At the completion of the Wed
nesday afternoon home nursing
class course this week, the class
honored Its teacher, Mrs. Grant
H. Moore, and the three super
visors, Mrs. T. H. Ness, Mrs. J. R.
Wharton and Mrs. Harry S.
Black, at a charming tea at the
home of Mrs. William Bell on
South Jackson street.
The tea table was beautifully
appointed and spring flowers
were attractively arranged about
the rooms. Mrs. Walter Gordon,
of Los Angeles (who is here visit
ing her mother, Mrs, M. F. Rice),
was a guest. Mrs. P. P. Whitmore,
Mrs. A. J. Young and Mrs. T. B.

ing and Mrs. A. S. Coen poured.

HELD ON MONDAY
One of the most Interestlni;
meetings of the year was held
Monday evening, at the Jr. High
school, of the Jr.-Sr Parent
Teacher association with Mrs.'
p. S. Chambers, president, in
charge. Sergeant McElroy led
the pledge of allegiance to
the flag and later gave an
interesting talk. The project
of furnishing sandwiches for the
i high school shift at the filter sta-
lion was reported to be progress-
ing nicely with the cooperation of
I the parents. Miss Helene Rob
I inson led the group in patriotic
singing, then presented the High
school sextette In a delightful
number. Numerous school activi
ties were announced by Clyde
Beard, principle of Senior high
school and principle R. R. Brand
of Junior high. E. A. Britton
spoke on 4-H and youth groups
in the community. Following a
general report of committees, of-
Iicers for the coming year were
elected as follows: H. B. Carter,
president; Mrs. E. A. Britton, vice
president, Mrs. Ray Hampton,
secy.-treas.
Mrs. Carl Wimberly, program
chairman, introduced Marshall
Pengra of KRNR, who lead a for
um on the adolescent child and
the "teen ago dating problem."
Late hours, frequency of dates
and conduct during dates, came in
for their share of discussion, Mr.
Pengra kept the meeting to a
high pitch of Interest and a high
level. There were firm reminders
that parents have a job that chal
lenges their resources of wisdom
for right decisions and the cour
age to enforce them. High stan
dards in the home and getting
the child's point of view ln order
to keep pace with their interests
and activities, being sure they
were wholesome and desirable,
were highlights of the forum.
The last meeting of the year
will be held May fourth, at which
time, Dr. Victor P. Morris, of
Eugene will be the speaker.

Gideon meeting, which followed
and Mr.. Watson dedicated the

Gideon's much assistance in his
talk, while Mrs. Watson advised
the auxiliary. Mr. Watson Is
state Bible secretary of the Gide
ons.

One of the most interesting
meetings of the Mld-Week Bible
class of St. Paul's Lutheran
church was held Thursday after
noon at the lovely home of Mrs.
Roy Ilebard on South Pine street
with Mrs. Lewis Wilson acting
as joint hostess. Beautiful bou
quets of colorful spring flowers
were used about the rooms.
The topic study was led by the
pastor and was based on Christ's
Sermon on the Mount. During the
business session the women elect
ed Mrs. George McQueen to rep
resent them at the organization
convention of Federation of Luth
eran Women to be held in the
Trinity church ln Portland on
Aprij 29. There will be delegates
from all Oregon Lutheran church
cs ln attendance at the conven
tion.
During the social hour Mrs. E. ,
Brinkmcyer was pleasantly sur
prised with a shower of lovely
gifts, which were presented ln a
beautifully decorated large doll
buggy wheeled into the room by
little Patricia Perrin. After the
