Supreme Allied
War Authority
Will Be Formed

Discussions are under way for
establishment of a supreme allied
war authority to direct high stra
tegy against the axis, the authori
tative British press association
said tonight, anil some quarters
here believe that Washington
should be its headquarters.
Keynotlne comment of British
news organizations, the press as
sociation said:
"In canitals of each of the four
great allied powers (the United
States. Britain. China and Itus
sin) leaders and snokesmen have
already indicated their agreement
to the general principle of a su
preme authority for direction of
the war.
"Discussions which now are
proceeding between service and
political experts are designed to
bring the necessary machinery
into being."

Transient Loitering at
S. P. Tunnel Jailed Here
Leo Belcher, 41, a transient,
apparently of German descent,
was held in custody here today
on a sentence of 30 days ufter
pleading guilty in the Glendale
Justice court Wednesday to a
charge of vagrancy, Sheriff Cliff
Thornton reported. Belcher, the
sheriff said, recently was seen by
a Southern Pacific truck foreman
loitering In the vicinity of a rail
road tunnel In the Cow creek dis-
triet, and Ih-d when approached
by the foreman. lie later was
taken into custody by city offi
cers at Glendale on the descrip
tion furnished them and has been
unable to give a satisfactory ex
planation of his reason for loiter
ing In the vicinity of the tunnel,
the sheriff said. Federal authori
ties have been notified of his arrest.

Faces Charge of Murder

first degree murder, was filed in
circuit court yesterday by District
Attorney Fred A. Miller.
The charge grows out of the
fatal shooting of David A. Smith,
48, fellow-worker.
Portland Policeman
Commits Suicide
PORTLAND, Dec. 18-fAP
The coroner reported that Alex
ander P. Robb, 42, city policeman,
committed suicide last night by
shooting himself through the fore
ncad. He was in ill health. The

West Salem Women
Drowns in Bathtub
SALEM, Dec. 18. - (API Mrs.
Alma Peake. 30. drowned yester
day in her bathtub at her home
in West Salem yesterday. Deputy
Coroner Dollman said she left
two notes for her husband.
