rine Bowe was hostess to the
Olalla woman's club, The Busy
Steppers, at the home of her
uncles, Cell and Henry Ireland,
on Thursday. She was assisted
by her niece, Miss Colleen Ire
land of Coquille, in serving a
delicious potluck dinner at 12:30
to Mrs. Earl Olllvant, secretary
treasurer of the club; Mrs. Frank
Adamek, Mrs. Mary Hodges, Mrs.

Bass was a charming hostess to
the ladles of the West Melrose
club Thursday. The afternoon
was devoted to the business
meeting, conversal ion and
needlework, under the lovely
large maple trees in the yard of
the Bass home.

Ralph L. Ohman for a short time.
The Lorenz' have been on their
honeymoon and arc now en route
back to the coast. Mrs. Lorenz

and shoulder Injury In a tractor
accident July 12th and has been
a patient at Mast hospital In Myr
tle Point, since that date, has
been discharged from the hospital
and is now reported to be con
valescing satisfactorily at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland
at Camas Valley.
Go to Wedding Mrs. Armllda
J. Hess, of 604 South Stephens
street, her son-in-law and daugh
ter, Mr. and" Mrs. James T. Miller,
and her son, Clarence W. Hess,
all of this city, drove to Eugene
today to attend the wedding of
the latter's daughter, Miss Mar
garet Hess. The bride is well
known in Roseburg, having form
erly made her home in this city.
Leaves for South Miss Cora
Rotl has left for McCloud, Calif.,
where she is engaged as a nurse,
following her vacation here. Ac
companied by Mrs. M. F. Rice, of
Roseburg, and Mrs. Bert Lau
rence, of Dillard, a part of the va
cation was spent at the coast.
Miss Roti formerly resided In
Roseburg at the home of Mrs.
Rice and was employed as a
nurse at Mercy hospital.
Will Attend Meeting Vernon
Keel, of this city, left this morn
ing for Portland to attend a
Studebaker meeting tonight. He
was accompanied to Portland by
his wife and small son, Tommy,
who will take the train there to
night for Huntsvllle, Alabama,
to visit Mr. Keel's parents. They
will also visit in St. Louis, Mis
souri, before they return to the
west coast. They plan to enjoy
a month's vacation.
California Visitors Leave Mr.
and Mrs. F. L. Miles have had as
their guests during the last
week: Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Hen
derson, Mr. and Mrs. J. Smith,
of Altadena, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs.
Emil Gehrs and daughter, Mrs.
Inez Good, Mr. and Mrs. John
Ragsdale, of Pasadena, Calif.,
nnd E. F. McKenzie, of South
Pasadena. Mr. Henderson and
Mr. Miles formerly worked to
gether in the Pasadena postoffice.
Mr. McKenzie resided here 17
years ago and was employed by
the Southern Pacific. He stated
that a great number of changes
had occurred in Roseburg since
his residence here. During the
California visitors stay as guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Miles, they en
joyed trips over the North Ump
qua road, Willamette highway to
Odell, Diamond and Crater lakes
and a trip through eastern Ore
gon and over the McKenzie high
way to see the lava beds. This
was the first vacation trip of the
California visitors to Oregon
iwith the exception of Mr. Me
I Kenzie. They reported that their
. vacation in Oregon was the best
' they had ever had and the entire
group plans to return here at a
future date.

Mrs. E. R. Walton and their son,

cille Hibbs, and go to Neskowin
for a week's vacation. Harold
has been spending the last two
weeks attending the Boy Scout
camp at Wolf creek. Mr. Walton
is employed as clerk at the Ho
tel Umpqua and Mrs. Walton is
an employee of the local tele-
phone company office.
Melvin Baker's Hand
Injury Is Improving
The condition of Melvin Baker,
Legion Junior baseball player
whose hand was mangled in a
hay-baler Tuesday, was reported
as good today by Dr. J. E. Camp
bell, attending physician.
It has not yet been necessary
to amputate any of young Bak
er's fingers, Dr. Campbell re
ports, and it is hoped the fingers
can be saved.
Management Change in
Produce Firm Reported
A change in managership of
the Valley Produce company was
announced today by M. H. Shook,
owner. Grant Phillips will man
age the local concern, as Mr.
Shook has opened a new poultry
and egg plant in Medford, the
O. K. Poultry company.
