opening games of the 1911 soft
hall season. In the games play
ed on Finlay field, Texaco upset
the defending city champions,
Dunham's Transfermen, 11 to 3,
and Glide won a slugfest from
Montgomery Ward M to 9 in
extra Innings.
Texaco's attack was paced by
Roger Olmscheld, fleet outfield

Quarterly Conference of
Methodists Postponed
The quarterly conference of
the Roseburg Methodist church,
originally scheduled for Thurs
day of this week, has been post
poned tentatively until Friday,
June 6, at 8 p. m., it was annouc
ed today by the Rev. Melville T.
Wire, pastor. The date of the
conference was changed to avoid
conflict with commencement ex
ercises at Roseburg high school,
he said. The conference will be
conducted by Dr. S. W. Hall of
Salem, superintendent for the
Cascade district.

Musical Treat In
Choral Club Bill
Roseburg music lovers will
have an opportunity next Mon
day night to hear the largest wo
men's choral group ever to sing
here, .when the Eugene Wo
men's Choral club appears in a
benefit concert at Roseburg sen
ior high school. The club in
cludes 65 members. The last
time such a large number In any
chorus performed here was
when the Eugene Gleemen sang
in the Roseburg armory several
years ago.
The chorus will Include many
persons well known In this city,
particularly Cora Moore Frey,
the director, who was graduated
from Roseburg high school and
who was accompanist to the glee
club.
The concert Monday night will
be a 100 per cent swimming pool
benefit. The Eugene women are
donating their services. Each
season thev present a benefit
program In support of some I
worthy cause In an Oregon city
outside of Eugene.
There will be a wide variety
in the type of songs to he pre
sented, as they will range through
the classical, folk songs, spiri
tuals, etc., together with special
groups of "nonsense tunes,"
sacred selections and a group of
Victor Herbert favorites. Many
of the numbers will be taken
from the concert presented by
the club two weeks ago.
The concert is being sponsored
by the Roseburg Men's Glee club.

any member of the club or may
be purchased at The Film Shop
or Goettel's Variety store.
Returns to Eugene Bill Davis
has returned to his work at Nord
ling Auto parts in Eugene, follow
ing a two-day stay with his wife
in this city. Mr. Davis was re
cently transferred from the local
store of the company to Eugene.
Mrs. Davis operates the Northside
Beauty parlor here.

the tree, the other Is like the
chaff. One is staple, unmove
able. The other is blown
away. It is a great compli
ment to liken a man to a
tree, his leaf shall not wither
and whatsoever he doeth snail
prosper. Day by day we grow
in one or the other direction.
Job said, "Let me live the life
of the righteous, that my last
end may be like his." This
tells us definitely what the re
sult will be when we come to
