Many persons, who have visited tlm Northwest Turkey show each year, have been heard to com ment on the fact that fewer grow ers are competing from Washing Ion. California. Idaho and slates other Ihnn Oregon than in earlier years of the show. This Is explain ed by U. G. Young, manager, who points In the fact that Oregon birds entered in poultry shows In other states have consistently won all top prizes. In an eastern turkey show two years ago. where Oregon birds were entered, the judges gave the first five prizes to the western entry and then held that the other entries were so much inferior that they skipped the sixth place and rated the remaining birds from seventh place on down. "We still have many entries from California and Washington where growers are producing broad breasted turkeys." Mr. Young explained, but each year finds competition becoming keen er and keener and many out-of state turkey raisers realize that It is hopeless to try to win prizes against the Oregon birds."
