Here on Morals Charge
Louis Frakes, 25, of .Reedsport,
was brought to the comity jail last
night to he held to the grand Jury
on a morals charge. He was bound
over from the needsport justice

Crusher Loan Sought
A committee composed of Coun
cilman C. W, Wharton, Ira B. Rid
dle and Percy Croft was appointed
to meet with the county court In
an efrort to secure use of the coun
ty's rock crusher at Wilbur to pro
vide surfacing material on a pro
posed WPA airport improvement
project The council was Inform
ed by .Mr. Dawson, local WPA su
pervisor, that a project for surfac
ing the airport runway with ap
proximately 10,000 yards of ma
terial now Is heliiK prepared. The
WPA will provide all lohor anil
equipment needed In hauling and
placing the material but lacks
funds to buy the gravel from the
county, he slates. The council de
clared that the county court
should give some measure of co
operation as the airport Is main
tained for the benefit of the en
tiro county and not for just the
city or Roseburg. The committee
will ask that the county court per
mit use or its crusher by a WPA
crew without charge.
Fire Protection Granted
An application by Morgan Law
son, residing 46 rent outside the
city limits on Kaat Douglas street,

contract for protection by the city

cilman Harris, chairman of thr
fire commission, stated it, was
against the commission's policy to
make such contracts with indivi

By-Pass for Steelheads
Being Built at Hatchery
Construction of a by pass at the
fish racks at the mate-owned sal
mon hatchery at Rock creek wa
started today. The- by pass will
permit the passage of steelheads
returning to the ocean from up
stream spawning beds, it is re
ported. The construction is ex
pected to eliminate a source of
much friction between sports fish
ermen and the stale fish commis
sion, as the existence of the bur
rler to the passage of fish other
than salmon has caused much dis
cussion in past years.
