over Hoseburu to snoll the Indiuns'

race last night at senior high. The
winners led 12 to 11 ut half
time. Though tho score reveals the
outcome of an exceedingly torrid
and tough contest, it in no way
attests how close the game was
for three and one-half periods.- At
no time did either team lead by
more than threo points, except for
the afforementlotied lust few min
utes, and tho score was deadlock
ed six times 4-4. 7-7, 9-9, 11-11, 12

out In front on four occasions. Co
quille led H to f at the end of the
rirst porlod, but the Indians wero
ahead by three points, 17-14, at the
start of the final canto.
Coach "Spike" Leslie's Red De
vils were definitely "on" In lust
night's emhrollglo while just the
reverse was true for Couch Jim
Watts' luckless Indians. Coquille
took 3U shots from the field nnd
connected for 12 for a high percent
age of .308. The Indians had a
measly .226 from seven field goals
out of 31 shots ut the elusive hoop.
j During the first half the Leslie
(men made five out of 19 to Rose
burg's four out of 16.
Red Devils Top Scorers
High-scoring honors went to two
clever Hed Devil guards, Schaer
ami nnauiDO, who laiueu iz :imi
1 1 points respectively for 23 of
their teams 29 points. Virg iSand

charity tosses.
' Tho play was lightning-fast on
both sides, each team employing
the fast-breaking and all its varia

scores. Tho torrid-tempo resulted
In n great deal of bodily contact

called in ul), lft on the winners,

Schner and Wlard all being ban
ished. Except for the last few min
utes, the game was anybody's,
with the lead seesawing back and
forth throughout. Hotb teams en
deavored to set up their pluye
which resulted in lew shots at the
hoop and the low score. Doth quin

Shambo Decides Battle
The lust three minutes was a
nightmare for the home town root
ers. About midway through tle
period. Schaer, on another beau
tiful one-handed push shot from
mldcourt, gave Coquille a 22-21
lead, and from that point until on
until the final whistle it was just
too-much Shambo. Tho little
guard connected a 20-footer to
make it 24-21. then missed twp
free throws, hut came back short
ly after to break away for a set
up and a 26-21 score. Koseburg's
last point came on a converted
gift toss by Sunders on n tech
nical foul. Shambo erased that
noint immediately with his third
bucket, was fouled in the shot,
"id made good his free throw for
the final point. The Indians tried
desperately to score but could not
connect.
While It was a bitter defeat to
take before a large partisan
crowd , or rooters, the Indians
showed enough to serve notice on
Coos county quintets that the lea
gue title Is anybody's prize. Slop
py ball handling at times was the
Indians' worst fault. The return
to form of ,ltm Finlay. veteran
guard, was one bright light even
in defeat. Sanders played a benu

Wiard, lluuhes and Haker all )
showed plenty of courage and

Do you ever do things
like this?
Take a round-trip trolley ride downtown to
buy a yard of ribbon for 10c less than next
door?
Walk six blocks to buy cigarettes for 2c less?
Spend two hours bargain-hunting to save 25c?
Drive 1 2 miles to buy eggs for a few cents less?
'Fess up! We all do. Thereby exhibiting one of
the finest possible examples of false economy.
In most cases we spend twice 'as much in actual
cash, time and shoe-leather as the few pennies
we supposedly "save."
If you want to hunt values, the place to do it
is in the columns of this newspaper. Follow the
advertisements every day. Then when you go
to buy, you'll make really worth-while savings
And the chances are, you'll find some of the
best "buys" at the stores right around the cor
