COMPORT CLUB HAS
CHRISTMAS MEETING
MKKROSK, Dec. 12. Mrs. C. E.
Johnson and Mrs. C. It. Hulmquist
very graciously entertained the El
g a rose Comfort club Thursday aft
ernoon at the beautiful home of
Mrs. Johnson.
The rooms were decorated with
bouquets . of yellow chrysanthe
mums and a beautifully decorated
Christinas tree.
The meeting was called to or
der at two o'clock by the club
president, Mrs. Ullder Johnson,
Plans were made to remember all
the Hick and shutlns that are iu
the Melrose community with a
Christinas gift or remembrance.
Also the club meeting date was
changed from the first Thursday
of each month to the first Tues
day of each month until school
Is out then the club will meet again
on the former day.
The January meeting will be
held Tuesday, January 2, at the
home of Mrs. V. S. Woodruff with
Mrs, Clara Htubbs as Joint hos
tess. Follow in the business meeting
a short Chrlatmus program was
held. The tree, was enjoyed and
gifts were exchanged. Following
the very delicious refreshments
served by the hostesses several
Cbristmus carols were sung toy
the group.

SURPRISE MEETING
SITTHERLIN. December 12.
The local Rcbekah rooms were the
scene of a very enjoyable evening
Thursday, December 7, when the
Hose burg Rebekah lodge surprised
the members of the Kutherlin
lodge.
The Uoseburg lodge served a
sumptuous banquet and gave a
very good program consisting of:
a rending, "Conversation Over the
Telephone." by Mrs. Emma Taylor;
two piano solos by Mrs. Evelyn
Frederiekson; and two readings by
Mrs. Alvla Wethcrall. The pro

Clarence Chalmers.- AYho was
returning home from Myrtle
Creek on his Mead bike Sunday
evening, was struck by a passing
car and thrown off the road nud
over a steep embankment. By the
time he was able to climb back to
the highway the offending ear had
vanished leaving him to walk Borne
