The curry over from 193S will be considerably less than 1937. Con sumption was expected to Increase. The total wool production in the United Stales last year was esti mated at 43ti. 515.000 (K) inula com pared with 432.S09.000 in 1937. A bout 4ti,72ti,000 head of sheep pro duced an average fleeco of 7. 98 pounds. The shorn wool value last year reached $71,37S.OOO. consid erably less than the preceding year. About ,932,0H0 Oregon sheep pro duced 17.4HH.UiM) pounds of wool last year compared with a produc tion of 17,501,000 pounds by 2,036,- 000 sheep tho previous year. (API National Dairy Products Corp.. was disclosed today to be experiment ing with the manufacture of syn thetic wool from casein, a product of sUlmmed milk. The company has equipped a smalt laboratory at Bristol, R. 1., where the experiments are going forward, hut no announcement has been made as yet concerning the progress. At the present tlmo, only 12 bil lion pounds of the 50 billion pounds of skimmed milk produced annually in the United States aro utilized commercially and scientists have been seeking new outlets for this milk.
