half of the fiscal year 1939 run

with excess of expenditures to titl

mouths of the fiscal year. 193S.
For the first six months of the
current fiscal year the statement
showed shrinking Income and ex
panding expenditures.
Total receipts for the first six
months were $2,927,285,390.99 com
pared with S3,17fi.2J3.5ir.70 for the
corresponding period in the 1938
fiscal year.
During the six months just end
ed total expenditures swelled to $4,
529,205,700.72, compared with 3,
72S.755.290.37 In the like fiscal per
iod a year ago.
A sharp run-up occurred in emer
gency expenditures. In the six
months just ended, recovery and
lelief spending rose to $1,512,712,
09H.22 from Sl.020.411. 111.90.
The gross public debt climbed
somewhat more than S2, 000. 000.000
over the corresponding date last
year. The total at Dec. 30, 193S
was S39,427.1S3.901.04, compared

TKNMILK, Jan. . Preliminary
work on the construction of a new
school building for the Tenmile
district was started this week by
It. J. Hillstrom. Marshfield con
tractor, to whom the project was
awarded on the low offer of $9,995.
The bid was the lowest of the six
proposals received.

tions and a two-room office has
been built in one end of the play
shed. A plot of ground adjoining
the old playgrounds has been pur
chased as a site for the new build
ing. It is to be erected adjoining
the present structure, which is
about 75 years old and obsolete in
design and in poor state of repair.
The old building will continue in
use until the new structure is
roady for occupancy, probably In
about four months.
The construction will be financed
jointly by the Tenmile school dis
trict and the Public Works admin
