Enormous Is the word which best
describes the new handbags that
smart women will carry with their
fall clothes. Expertly designed to
look large but not clumsy ami to
hold all necessary makeup as well
as other odds and ends, they will
charmingly accent simple dresses
and offer an Interesting contrast to
tiny hats.
The chic, roomy model, at left,
Is a shining example of the new
trend. It's completely In tune with
the charm of the Louis XIV era
which Is widely dlscussi'J .right
now. It's made of "worked" leath
er which was created by a famous
maker of smart purses. The leaf
design, pressed into the leather,
gives an applique effect. The bag
is shown with a small velvet hat
and suede gloves both In match
ing shade of warm rust.

The smart, roomy bag (of smooth
black calf, above, will go nicely
with any tailored street costume
aiJ would be a great comfort to the
traveller. A wide gusset, so clever
ly concealed that it doesn't mar the
shape of the bag, allows plenty of
room for letters of credit, a pass
port, adequate makeup, and lots of
papers. The body of the bag and
' the flap are lined with one piece of
leather. A gold button makes the
snug fastening. ,
'A lovely halo hat with a jewelled
ornament, a practical but utterly
beautiful bag In rust antelope anj
matching antelope gloves, make
the attractive fall accessory en
semble, at left. The bag has capa
cious portfolio-like compartments
that the business woman or a fall
traveller would find pretty handy.
