NEW YOHK ileside the mas
sive, array of bracelets and neck
luces will) which fashionables fes
toon themselves these days, a
single bracelet, worn demurely on.,
one wrist, seems-wanly insignifi
cant, li s a year to look as though
King Midas touched your throat
and arms.
Cold is the durliug of the hour.
From wide, chunky necklaces to
slim, delfcato ones, to be worn in
groups of three or four, or even
live or six, there's a great variety
from which lo pick und choode. If,
down deep in an old jewel case,
there ure several brooches and
chains that grandmother left, pol
ish them up. Or haunt the antique
an ops. Old-looking jewelry is smart
er uuu bright shiny new pieces,
Find an onotmoua old pin set
with gurnets, star sapphues or
opals, then have a clip attachment
put on the buck of it. Earrings, al
so of yellow gold und larger thuu
formerly, sparkle on the ears of
elegantes.
Jewelled flowers ure everywhere.
On a plum or blackberry wine col
ored gown, what could be more
striking than a t Milestone and
amethyst orchid? Or a rhiuestono
gardeniu with green enamel leaves
on the shoulder of a black velvet
dance dress'.' ;
If you have odds ami ends of
jewelry that seem pretty unimport
ant, take them to a jeweler wlm
will cooperate with you in working
out soino wUy to make use of the
metul und whutevcr stones thoio
are.
Tho jewelry shown here today
doesn't cost a small fortune, but it
is chic, correct and perfect with
background dresses tnose simpie,
beautifully cut frocks which shout
for the right accessories, then sot
the wearer us well as the accesso
ries off to excellent advantage.
The web-like necklace might be
an heirloom so dignified ami sim
ple is it. The mulching bracelets
would be lovely with a long-sleeved
dinner dress as well as a black
street frock.

BROWN LEAVES

The brown leaves lay
Thick on tho ground,
And the brown hills stood
In silence around.
I
The brown leaves lay
The brown hills stood,
One close to the other I
As close as they could.
The hills and the leaves
Turned brown together.
And changed their coata
To fit the weather. f
The leaves are blowing
And covering the hill,
Rolling and tumbling
Then lying so still.
The hills and the leaves
All rolorcd the same.
Drown hills, brown leaves
As brown as their name.
See the brown leaves
As they lie by the fence,
See them pile bigll
Where the hills commence.
See them scatter out
Where the hills slope high,
See them turn brown.
As they wither and die. J
