CHARMING AFFAIR
A very charming affuir of the
week, which was enjoyed by over
a hundred guests, was the annual
scholarship loan benefit sliver tea
sponsored Wednesday afternoon
from 3 to 5 o'clock by the Rose
burg Woman's club in the club
rooms. Huge bouquets of pussywillows,
evergreen foliage and flowering
jasmin were attractivly' arranged
about the rooms. Pale yellow and
green lighted tapers and a bou
quet of jasmin graced the tea ta
ble. Past presidents of the Rose
burg Woman's club alternated In
pouring" during the tea hour.

The meeting held last Sunday
evening was enjoyed by 41. A
30 minute, song service was fol
lowed by a Bible study conducted
by Mrs. C. W. Hagen on the sub
ject, "Afflictions." Readings were
given by Fiorina Handy, Fred
Bonebrake, Mrs, J. Fenn and Miss
June Munson. A duet was pre
sented by Helen White aud Jerry
Horn.

HAS MEETING ON
MONDAY EVENING
The University chili met at the
Episcopal parish hall Monday eve
ning with Paul Geddes, president,
in charge. Plans were talked over
for the play to be sponsored by the
club the middle of February.
Arrangements are now being
made for a Valentino dance to be
held ut the armory February 14.

year was the jubilee held . here
Tuesday evening, when the Rose
burs chapter of Kosteru Star cele
brated Iu golden anniversary.

Mrs. Frederick K. Hartung,
worthy matron, presided over luu
banquet and social hour, which fol
lowed at the Masonic temple chap
ter rooms. Mrs. George K. Kohl
liagen and Miss Fiances Howell,
of Boseburg, and Mrs. J. li. Hor
ner, of Corvallis, were special
guests of honor at the celebration,

gram, which was followed by ihe
introduction of the grund officers
of OrcKou, past grand officers, elec
tive and appointive grand officers,

representatives, charter members,
Roseburg chapter past matrons and
past patrons and visiting matrons
aud natrons.
Following prayer, greetings were
extended to the large audience by
the worthy matron, Mrs. Hartung,
with Marie Flint McCall, of Salem,
formerly of this city, giving the
response, Mrs. R. D. Coon sang
a solo, accompanied by Mrs.
Frances IJntott, anil the history of
the Koseburg chapter was read by
.Miss Murguret Page. "Builders ot
Our Star," was presented by the
Roseburg chupter officers and wbb
followed by an accordion solo by
.Mrs. Leonard Delancy and a talk
by the grand worthy matron of
Oregon, Mrs. Inez Glaisyer. Mrs.
Glalsyer was gowned in an espe
cially lovely model of coral-plhk
satin, fashioned with a train.
The past matrons of Roseburg
chapter degree followed und Mi's.
Elsie Csiiton Strang, of Medford,
also a former resident of this city,
sang a solo.
The birthday cake ceremony
was one of the most outstanding
features of the evening. The cake
was wheeled into the room on a
tea wagon by Mrs. Victor Mi
celll, associate matron of Hose
burg chapter ,and was cut by the
three chnrter members, Mrs. Kohl
hagen, Miss Howell and Mrs. Hor
ner. This ceremony wus follow
ed by a beautiful skit, "Fifty
Years Ago uud Now," presented
by Uoseburg chapter members and
members of bethel No. 8 of Job's
I laughters. Talks were given by
visiting present and past grand of
ficers, utter v.hiih gifts were pre
sented to Roseburg chnpter by
the visiting chapters, which includ

bers from the Roseburg chapter.
