rison was elected president of the
Oakland Development club at the
meeting held Monday evening in
the new Quarters adjoining the E.
(r. Young and Company bank. Wil
liam Castor was named vice-president
and 13. F, Burnett, secretary
treasurer. It was decided to make
a very thorough drive for new
members, and Ben Huntington,
Jr., was chosen as chairman to di
rect the campuign. Several other
committees were appointed to di
rect various activities.
The next meeting will be held
Monday, March 2, at which time
the members will partake of n 7
o'clock dinner. II. K. Mahoney has
charge of the arrangements for
this dinner meeting, which will be
open to all interested persons.

22 will witness completion of the
full-size replica of Mount Vernon
at Paris as the principal Ameri
can exhibit for the international
colonial and overseas exposition.
It will be furnished and decor
ated throughout just as it was
when the Marquis de Lafayetto
visited our first president there
in the stormy days of Hip revolu
tion. The famous rug of Louis
XVI. the bedroom occupied by
Lafayette, the bedroom In which
Washington died, and all the fa
mous portraits nnd objects of art
will be reproduced in Mount Ver
non de Paris.
On next. July 4th, climaxing
American week at the exposition,
famous French and American the
atrical stars will enact the drama
of Lafayette's first visit to Mount
Vernon in the costume and manner
of the 18th century.
Above is the first portrait ever
made of Oeorge Washington, paint
ed in 1776 by Charles Wilson
Peale when Washington was 44
years old, and recently returned
to the United States after 150
years in Europe. The portrait
shows him standing at the llallle
of Trenton, and gives a striking)
impression of his great stature, the
fltBt president having been nearly
six feet four Inches In height. It
is considered a superior likeness
to the Stuart portraits. The Peale
portrait will hang in Mount Ver
non de Paris at the International
exposition. 1

of the airport commission. Owing
to the fact, that three members of
