Holds Fine Meeting

The Ladies Aid of the Raptbt
church of Roseburg held their reg
ular business meeting on Thursday
afternoon In the church parlors,
with Mrs. Oliver Johnson, presi
dent, in charge. A membership
drive is now on and Mrs. R. II.
Shoun and Mrs. R. E. Crawford
have been chosen as captains.
They chose sides and also a color.,
Mrs. Shoun chose cold for her
team and Mrs. Crawford chos-i

Plans were also made for two
cooked food sales, one to be held,
on October 25th and the other on
November 22nd. Both of these
sales' will be held In the Southern
Oregon Gas company office win
dows on Cass street.
Mrs. Johnson also appointed a
committee to take charge of a near
future party to he given in honor
of ail those having birthdays dur
ing the past three months.
A fine attendance was present
for this meeting.

Rebekah President
Makes Official Visit
to Glendale Lodge
Mrs. Leona Thiel of Astoria
made an official visit to the Moun
taineer Rebekah Indue No. 140
Thursday evening in her capacity
as president of the Rebekah assem
bly or Oregon. It was Mrs. Thiel's
first visit to Glendale.
The lodge exemplified its ritual
work by initiating two candidates
Mrs. Elizabeth Wooclroffe and
George Franklin Olingliouse, after
which Mrs. Thiel gave a very in
teresting talk on lodge work.
An excellent luncheon was
served at the conclusion of the
lodge session.

Meeting on Tuesday
The Glendale chapter O. E. S.,
held its first meeting following the
summer vacation months at the
Masonic hall last Tuesday. After
the close of the regular lodse meet
ing an informal reception was heH

lia) llagen and Mr. and Mrs. T. A.
Set her, who expect to leave here
before long.
Mrs. Hagen will leave soon for
Los Angeles, where she will make
an extended visit with her son, Ar
thur, and family, and then will go
to Arizona, where die expects to
spend the winter with her son, Har
ry, and family.

Enjoy Picnic Sunday
The Loyal Women's class accom
panied by their husbands, of the
First Christian church of this city,
went to the Hoffmeister ranch last
Sunday, immediately after the
morning church service, and spent
the day enjoying a picnic in the
erove. A noon lunch was served,
after which they were entertained
by a religious reading by John
Doerner.
Later in the day they went to
the Hoffmeister home, where sev
eral hours were enjoyed in song
service. Mrs. K. J. Brown was ac
companist.

Entertains Badoura Club
on Tuesday Evening
The Radonra club. Daughters of
the Nile, were guests of Mrs. W.
II. Gerretsen on Tuesday evening
of this week. The regular business
meeting was held early in the eve
ning. Mrs. William Bell, president,
was in charge. The ladles are mak
ing arrangejnents for the coming
of Mrs. Shepherd, queen of Nidia
temple. She experts to be In Rose
burs early this fall.
The rooms were lovnly with bou
quets of fall flowers and greenery.
At a later hour, covers were placed
for the guests tat a lare table, and
delicious refreshments were served
by the hostess, Mrs. Gerretsen.
United Spanish War !
Veterans and Auxiliary
Hold Meeting Thursday
The United Spanish War Vet
erans and Auxiliary No. 18 met at
the Armory on Thursday evening
of this week for the first meeting
of the season. The members found
that the club rooms had been beau
tifully renovated and redecorated
during their vacation.
A delicious six-thirty o'clock
chicken dinner was served to both
orders in the banquet hall.
The ladies were successful in se
curing some entertainers who hap
pened to be passing through the
city, who were invited to partake
of the repast and in turn gave a
delightful entertainment. Two
short, comical playlets and several
selections on stringed instruments
were,, enjoyed. Joseph Dubinski.
with his marvelous tenor voice and
banjo, especially delighted the aud
ience. The ladies have outlined a very
interesting and beneficial line of
work for the coming season. Mrs.
Elsie Wright and Mrs. Evangeline
Hyde gave an interesting report of
the state convention held at. Bend,
Oregon, during the summer.
The Auxiliary is planning a de
lightful reception for Mrs. Clara
Starmer. who was elected depart
ment president at the state conven
tion, and who attended the nation
al convention at Denver and who is
still in the east visiting relatives.

The Missionary society of the
South Methodist Episcopal church
met In the church parlors on Thurs
day afternoon of this week. The

the raising of money to meet some
of the church expenses for the

The Lady Elks met on Thursday
evening at the Elks temple for
their first meeting of the fall. Mrs.

his friends, the occasion being a

tonight tor Eugene to attend
the Decoration of Chivalry In
the Eugene Odd Fellows hall. They
will return to Roseburg for the an
nual worship meeting at the First
Presbyterian church tomorrow
morning, at which time the follow
ing organizations will participate,

campment No. 9, Roseburg Re
bekah lodge No. 41. Canton Robert
son No. 13 and Ladles Auxiliary
Canton Robertson, together with
visiting members from the several
neighboring cities.
The Odd Fellows will meet at the
local lodge hall at 10:30 o'clock in
the morning and will march to the
church with the Canton as an es
cort. They will occupy a section
reserved for them in the auditor
ium. The address will be given by
Rev. Alexander Mulrden, a mem
ber of the order, on the subject,
"The Exemplary Life," based on
the parable of the Good Samaritan.
Following the church service, tne
local organizations and visitors will
enjoy a pot luck dinner at the local

Miss Hazel Williams and Wal
lace Horner, both of Roseluurg,
were married at a quiet wedding
ceremony on Friday evening, Sep
tember 12th, at eight o'clock In the
First Christian church of Roseburg.
Rev. W. R. Baird read the cere
mony. Mrs. Clara B. Williams,
mother of the bride, and Mrs. Jess
Miller, mother of the bridegroom,
were the witnesses. The bride wuh
attired In a gray suit and matching

The bride, daughter of Mrs.
Clara B. Williams, was graduated
from Towhattan, Kansas, hlgn
Bchool, before going to Corvallls,
Oregon. She has been residing 111

of Mrs. Jess Miller, is well known
here, having resided In Hosuburg
all of his life and attending the
public schools. They will leave in
a few weeks for Klamath Falls,

ed Paul Trueblood, a former Rose
burg boy. She returned west via
the southern route, stopping In
New Orleans and Santa Ilarbara to
visit relatives. She will remain in
Roseburg until Sunday night,
when she will return to resume
her work as dietician In the Port
land Medical hospltnl. She Is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Churchill of this city.
