three organizations have been in
dicted in New York on a charge
of violating the Sherman act by
creating a poultry trutit. The mom
hem of the so-called New York
Live Poultry Chamber of Com
merce, a defendant, are charged
with having engaged fn hindering,
preventing and restraining per
sons and firms engaged In the
trade from carrying on their busi
ness except under conditions dic
tated by the chamber. Among
those conditions, it is declared. Is
one that all butchers purchasing
live and freshly slaughtered poul
try, trade only with those market
men designated by the alleged
conspirators and pay prices fixed
by the defendants. And It is
charged that commercial and even
physical punishment was meted
out by gang methods to any Indi
vidual dealers who failed to com
ply with the edicts of the tins'.
