felt by the legion post, which initi
aled the movement and carried it
successfully through to approval by
the voters, that enough laud should

class aviation field. The resolution
resulted in a great deal of discus
sion and was passed unanimously.
It was decided to observe the
usual custom of cooperating with
the other patriotic organizations of
the city in sponsoring the .Memorial
day prorgam. A committee will be
named to meet like committees
from the other rgoups and will
work out arrangements for the
celebration.
A committee was also appointed
to cooperate with the Spanish war
veterans In working out the ar
rangements for their department

sel, one of the leading Pacific
Northwest lumber compip'os, said
today the new tariff bill leavefl
much to be desired from the view
point of Oregon luinlwrinen.
"On cedar lumber and shingles,"
Dant said, "tlie duty is 25 per cent
ad valorum. For years there has
peen a demand that something be
done to shut out the shingles and
redar from Canada, and this de
mand appears to have been ie
cognized in the new bill.
"Hut the hill is of no value lo
this district because it does not in
clude, Douglas fir and hemlock.
The tariff on cedar and shingles,
however, does shut out Canadian
competition for the mills in parts 1
of Washington." !

is practically doubled by the bill

was called, McGurn had been
trapped in a downtown hotel
where he had been hiding since the
day of the seven-fold murder. Sea

one of the dozen listed as "wanted"
by the police for investigation. '
