For the first time in many years, two ne groes have been nominated to take the entrance examinations at the Annapolis naval academy and one at the West Point military academy, , Named by Representative Oscar do Priest, republican, Illinois, the only net-ro in congress, they are Laurence Alexander Whil field, Claude lien son I turns and Alonzo Soulelgh. all of Chicago. Whitfield, described as a Phi Heta Kappa member at the University of Chi cago, and Hurns are his candidates for the naval academy, and Sou lelgh for the army school. If any or alt should fail to pass the physical and men tal tests, alternates may be named. Mr. Ilarlley. who was a, mechanic in the naval air service, during the World war, has been a 1 student with the Itankin Flying service in Portland and now- holds, a pilot's license. He visited for a; short time in Itoseburg with his brother, James Hartley, and is re-j turning to Portland tomorrow-.
