Merle Phelps, assistant postmaster at fiermlston, Oregon, was today sent enced to one year and a day at McNeil Island federal prison and then paroled to his mother, Lela PhelpB, postmaster of Hermiston. Phelps was charged in federal court with collecting on C. O. D. packages and falling to turn in th money. The parole was granted after a long list of affidavits and testi monialH had been presented. Huston Rimer, GO, was found in his closed automobile here yesterday. Rimer had put a hose over the exhaust of his car and had taken the other end of the hose into the car, aft er stuffing rags in all crevices in the floor and sides of the liody. The body was found by a cou sin who had come from Klamath Falls to visit him. It Is believed Rimer had been dead since Thurs day night, as Rimer wns not seen after that day. He lived alone.
