SALT LAKE CITY. Jan. 1. The
body of 12-year-old June Nelson,
who disappeared last night when
she left her home for a nearby
store, was found in a water ditch
here today. Police said she had
been assaulted and murdered.
The girl, who was the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Nel
son, disappeared about 8 o'clock
last night after she had left her
father's place of business for her
home, about a quarter block d is
lam. Red marks on the child's throat
were regarded as evidence that
she might have been choked
death. An abandoned automobile
which had been stolen earlier In
the evening was found near the
overflow canal of the city water
system where the body was discov
ered by a passerby. A pair of
gloves In the car were believed to
have belonged to the girl.
Police said she could not have
been drowned in the canal, which
contained only about a foot of
water. The place where the body
was found is in an isolated section
on the west side of the cttv.

The city has an ordinance gov
ernlng such cases, but there has
never been any attempt made In
the way of enforcement. At one
time the radio club was active In
searching for causes of local Inter
ference, but in recent months the
club has been inactive and has
discontinued the work of searching
out and eliminating the local dis
turbances. Reorganization of the radio club
and the establishment of an effec
tive patrol system is now being
urged and fang are very hopeful
near future to clear up the situa
tion.
