MONDAY, DECEMBER 31, 1928. SOPHISTICATION' OUTDONE New York, as everybody knows, is the homo of the city slicker the place where sophistication is 100 per cunt, where all the old tricks are common knowledge and nobody can t,e fooled by anything. That, anyhow, is the national tiic-jry. 1 iie oiher day, however, a wandering Yankee blew iato New York with a stock of penknives which he had bought for two cents apiece. Daily he would board a sub way train, simulate illness, and oiler his knives for sale to kind-hearted dupes. And he cleared more than $100 a day, was able to hire a alct, and when finally arrested had up wards of $10,000 in the bank. New York may be wise and rc.phihticatcd. liuttlio old-fashioned Yankee trickster ci.i still find more suckers there than anywhere else in the country. A physician says politicians live longer than other men. JIaybe it only seems longer.
