It was announced this week at the
national offices of the Boy Scouts
of America in New York, through
the Hoy Stout National Court of
Honor, of which Daniel Carter I
Heard is chairman. j
The three Scout heroes whose)
lives were lost were Guy Atwood I
Kuggles of Tecumseh, Okla., Gur
us iarsen or warren, i a., uu
Charles Me Knelt of Huntington
Park, California.
Awards of Gold Honor Medals
to the parents of these three boys
and to seven other Scouts who en
dangered tiuir own lives in mak
ing rescues, were made by the Na
tional Court of Honor. Certificates
of Heroism also were issued to
many Scouts whose Scout training
mud it possible to save the lives
of others without grave danger to
themselves.
Scout Kuggles was drowned
June 16, lf2K, In rescuing Miss
Jewell Caler. of Lindsay. Okla..
from a treacherous Btnam near
David, Okla. Kuggles. a Life Scout.
21 years old. became exhausted
and sank after getting Miss Caler
to shallow water.
Sacrificing his own TIfe In a suc
cessful effort to save his younger
sister. Scout Curtis Maxwell Lar-
sen, 13. of Troop No. 4. Warren.
I'a., was drowned In the Allegheny
river at Big Hend, on July 16. 197.
The Scout was rowing a boat In
which were also two of his sisters.
The younger fell overboard. Scout
Larsen, an Inexperienced swim
mer, nevertheless dove Into the
river and brought his sister to the
boat. He sank and drowned.

I'ark. California, attempted to res
cue his younger brother, Itohert. 9.
from a deep pool below the falls
of Fish Canyon In the San Ber
nardino mountains, on June 3d,
1928. The McKnett family, consist
ing of the father and mother and
three boys, were on a picnic at
Fish Canyon. One of the boys. Rob
ert, plunged into the pool and
Charles and a younger brother ar
rived. Robert was seized with
cramps and sank. Charles directed
A still younger brother to run lor
help and leaped in. He could not
break the drowning grip of his
brother and was pulled to the bot

refused to comment further on
what action the directors would
take, but Wall Street expects a
melon in the form of a stock divi
dend. Mr. Sloan, who passed 5 weeks
abroad in ft business survey, said
General Motors would establish a

share.

he said, is advancing at a rapid

Walter McCoy, "wild man of the
Chamberlain basin," was ordered
committed to the state asylum at
Ororino today, having been ad
Judged insane.
McCoy, who wan aid to have
terrified his neighbors by threats,
robberies and "po king" In win
dows, was captured after Sheriff
Herve Uothwell of Idaho county
trailed hhn for four days over the
enow covered wilderness of the
roufhest mountain country In
Idaho.
McCoy was found hiding In an
abandoned prospect hole. He was
armed, but made no resistance.
RARE COPY OF POE'S
WORK SELLS FOR $20,000
DOSTON, Oct. 31 The Boston
Tranncript aya today that a copy
of "Tamerlane, the first published
work of KilKar Allan Poe, has been
sold by Charles K. Ooodspeed. Bos
ton hook sellers, to an Indianapolis
collector for a sum said to be In
excess of IJO.OOO. the highest price
ever paid for an American first
edition.
It Is one of six known copies of
this edition. It was printed In Bos
ton In 1S27, under the title of
"Tamerlane and Other Poems by a
Bostnnian."
The ellltlon Is so rare, says the
Transcript, that there Is no copy
In the congressional library, the
Harvard library or the Boston pub
lic library. There Is one copy In
the British museum, while the re
maining known four are In private
collections. . ,
