Tweedy has Juitt completed ail agricultural bul letin, which is being mailed out to the farmers of the county thin week. In this activity the county agent has the cooperation of the extension service of the college. The bulletin contains arrlcultural notes and recommendations as fol lows : Prune Pool (Sold The prune pool controlled by the Douglas Cooperative Prune asso ciation was sold recently at a price somewhat above any price receiv ed by any individual growers up to the time. Members of the pool are greatly encouraged by the suc cess of their cooperative efforts and plan to greatly enlarge the operations of the - association to handle next year's crop. Seventy five growers were represented in the pool this year, with a total crop of 360, two pounds of Italian. li:.,000 pounds of pelltes aud 149, tmo pounds of dale prunes. The dates were sold alone for the first time. Green Feed and Poultry A continuous supply of tjrecn feed, considered necessary by suc cessful commercial poultrymen, may be supplied by an intensive system of cropping outlined in a recent bulletin written by H. A. Schoth, forrfge crop specialist at the Oregon Experiment Statiion. Kale is recommended as the bent winter green feed where it can be produced; and alfalfa and clov er hay as the best substitutes for green feed. A copy of the bulle tin may be secured from the county agent's office.. Bulletins for Distribution Recent surveys In important ag- fur- consume from novr until kilting time. Steamed bonemeal, oyster shell and some salt are required to provide for the proper bone de velopment. As turkeys are econ omical users of feed and bring higher prices per pound than oth er farm animals, the advantage of liberal feeding rs apparent. In ad dition to the margin of profit that is possible to be made in the in creased weight that is added dur ing tho finishing process, another item of great Importance la the in creased value of the bird per pound, due to better finish. This often amounts to 10 cents pound, which for a 15 pound key totals Jl 50 per bird. Storage for Fruits Locally produced apples and other fruits are far too scarce in producer's cellars and on local markets during the late winter and spring months. Cold storage fucilMics aro inadequate in this county, and fruit placed on the late market a shows the effects of poor farm storage conditions. Cold storage suitable for fruit should have control of temperature, hu midity and Hfr circulation. Tem perature must be maintained low enough to retard ripening; humid ity must be hiKh enough to keep fruit from wilting or shriveling, and air circulation Is necessary 10 carry away the gaseous products of respiration.
