Mrs. Tripp said thai she could ;

the Washington bureau without

information bureau had contribut-
ed floo a month toward work of '
her organization, after she ap
proached them; and estimated
that tne total contributions re
ceived were $500 a month.

On that occasiou, she testified,
C. L. Howard, superintendent of
public instruction in Oregon, had
requested that circulation of the
pamphlet be halted, alter a news
paperman had culled on him. Mrs.
Tripp then had letters sent to all
school superintendents in the
state, basing the withdrawal re
quest upon what was called lack of
up-to-date imoimaUou in the pain-pnlot-
"Was It not withdrawn because
of what Has said hy the man who
called on Mr. Howard?" asked
Heaiy.
"Yes," replied Mrs. Tripp, ex
plaining that "Mr. Howard did not
want to expose the man's name.'
She said that both Mr. Howard
and his teachers had approved t lie
monograph earlier in Hie year, and
contended that "political rea
sons" accounted for his request to
stop cliculation of the pamph
let. A letter from Howard to Mrs.
Tripp, under date of October 15,
1U-7, said he was pleased 'that
work you have done is meeting
so cordial reception and sincerely
trust that it Hill be widely used
in schools of the state."
