MRS MORRISON DIES AT HOME OF FATHER Mrs. Gertie lone Morrison pass ed away at the home of her father, J. J. Betts. at 6:iC North Pino street this morning, death follow ing an attack of lobar pneumonia. Mrs. Morrison was 34 years old. She wns the wife of Lee Morri son and for nine years lived at Roberts creek where she was well known. Mrs. Morrison was a mem ber of Evergreen grange. The body has been removed to the Roseburg Undertaking company's chapel and the funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the chapel. The first step toward Instituting a gen eral upward revision of freight rates In western territory have been Instituted before the Inter state commerce commission by re presentatives of western trunk line railroads. Agents of the western roads ask ed the commission for permission to file Immediately application looking to Increases on a wide range of commodities over most of the western territory and asserted that the Increases were necessary because their earnings "for some years have been and now are conspicuously Inadequate." Western railroads have con tended during recent years that their earnings were considerably f below those of carriers In the east em and southern districts. It was further declared that trainmen and conductors In the western ter ritory have pending demands for wage Increases which have been pushed to the point of a strike threat. While no mention was made of the impending Increase In western railroad labor costs. It was assumed that the two mat ters had at least an indirect con nection.
